" ~ Shantideva, The Way of the Bodhisattva -- Brummet's Fund-raising Efforts -- Lillian and Dave Brummet are known for their volunteer work with school theater productions, art presentations, fund-raising events, participation in green initiatives and donations of thousands of books over the past 10 years to the following organizations: Grand Forks and West Boundary Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy - Women's Resource Center - Whispers of Hope Org . - Grand Forks Public Library - Community Futures Resource Center . When the Brummet's became published authors they decided to make sure that some of the proceeds were given to charity. While there are so many worthy causes the Brummet's would love to play a role in - realistically they must limit their efforts to only a few. But yo

New poetry book release! Forgiveness & Peace

-- Quote of the Day -- “ …Forgiveness is something that you do for yourself. …Sometimes we think that in forgiving a person we are giving them power. But it is actually the other way around; you are giving your power away if you never forgive. …You need to take your power back and forgive it and that is the only way you are going to move past it. …It is simply saying ‘I don’t need this anymore, I am bigger than this and I want to take my power back and not have this person taking space in my head.’ …If you don’t – you are going to be the one that is hurting… You will not be the happy empowered, beautiful soul you were meant to be, but it will make you physically sick to. …It takes a very long time to heal deep wounds, and that is ok – but at some point there needs to be forgiveness .” ~ Sandee Sgarlata - July 9, 2009 Today's quote originated from the Inner Peace thru Forgiveness interview that aired on the July 9th broadcast on Conscious Discussions talk radio show. It was a rea

Gardening

-- Quote of the Day -- " For the sake of future generations, we must collect and study the wild and weedy relatives of our cultivated plants as well as domesticated vegetables. These sources are dangerously neglected. The future will not be so tolerant. We cannot afford to ignore any source of the gene pool ." ~ Jack R. Harlan, Professor Emeritus -- Conscious Discussions -- Common issues with water conservation, watering techniques for patio, balcony and backyard gardens, the benefits of mulch, different types of mulch and even some questions on growing tomatoes were all covered in a short half-hour session on the Sunday Gardening episode of the Conscious Discussions talk radio show. Take some time for yourself

-- Quote of the Day -- A smile is understood around the world - unknown Why does an inspiring sight such as a sunrise always have to take place at such an inconvenient time? Today I had the opportunity to just do some relaxing for the morning. It was amazing. Dave and I had a leisure breakfast late in the morning, walked and ran the dogs and had a nap - lol ! This afternoon I've been busily putting away laundry and scrubbing down the kitchen stove and fridge and cupboards (inside & out), tidying the house and running the vacuum. But the morning was amazing. I sat out by our little fountain by the patio and stared at it mindlessly until I realized I was sipping cold coffee sludge on the bottom of my cup. It was perfect! The birds were singing, the dogs were snoring, the sky was gray and a little wind was in the air. There is nothing like the amazing, refreshing feeling after having a day like today, I urge all of our readers to go ahead and take a few days a month just for you

Conscious Communication, prizes & hybrid cars

-- Quote of the Day -- “ When we speak we speak, we speak from our own world, and the person listening is hearing it from their world. …A lot of times when the conversations are emotion filled – it is at those times when we need to stop and …consciously think about how we want to come across. So I if I give off a lot of negative behavior they will see this and not hear what I am saying. …85% of what we believe is what we see not what we hear. So when we are speaking we need to have the body language that supports our words. …Many times you’ll hear ‘It is not what you say but how you say it’. …Taking the time to reflect on how I can best tell this person what I need to say so that our relationship is not destroyed. …There is a tendency for us to believe that two monologues is a dialogue – but it is not. A dialogue is when each person understands that there is a vested interest in the relationship, in the message that is being sent, the response and in how we are both going to feel when

So then I started looking for who around the world was working with frogs. …I wanted to start Save the Frogs because what I noticed about being a scientist is that sc

Human Rights, Environmental Consciousness & Water Conservation

-- Quote of the Day -- “… I am a mom, and I’m a normal person that just decided that I was getting really tired of the doom and gloom about the environment. ….I just decided that I wanted to make a difference; having my own children that are young, I wanted to hopefully leave the world a better place for them by making my small difference. …As a mom, sometimes you feel like you are not making a difference. But you really are, as hard as those days are, you know, when you are changing diapers and changing laundry. …a lot of people out there are cynical… a lot of people don’t want to change because they are so used to their lifestyle. …The children have power, they have choices, and they can make a difference. They are the ones who are going to be running the country for the next generation. …Animals are so in tune with the universe, whereas humans make everything just so complicated. …They teach us what true love is. …Ghandi used to say that if you want to see a change, you need to be t

Authors Read's Featured Guest & Celebrating Household Managers

-- Celebrating Household Managers - Society has grown so 'advanced' that we look down on those of us who choose to be nurturing Household Managers. Somehow this work force is seen as slothful folks who live off the work of others, or are incompetent in the workplace altogether. Society then contradicts itself by acknowledging the growing strain on the medical, policing and financial support systems due to increased stress, pollution and poor nutrition in today's civilized world. Worried politicians view our ever-growing need to import food as a potential disaster in the event of worldly catastrophes - and scientists tell us their numbers indicate we are actually overdue for a catastrophe. Society will 'tsk-tsk' at the children who have been raised by non-family members (including televisions and computers), because no one has the energy or the time to raise them properly. We have the audacity to be bewildered at the drop out rate in our cold and sterile public sch
