-- World of Writing, Interview --

Yes, it is time for another installment of our World of Writing Q&A interview series. Today we will be featuring Bob Crawford, author of Growing Your SELF! - Your Step by Step Guide to Manifesting Your Desires, is a success coach, speaker, and manifesting expert who has helped thousands of men and women from around the world gain the skills they need to transform their lives quickly and painlessly. His message is simple, “You can change your life!” - and he backs it up with practical ways to begin making the changes that you desire. Q: Who inspired you to pursue a career in writing?

I have always been naturally attracted to writing as a way to express my ideas and thoughts, probably because at a young age I developed an insatiable appetite for books of all kinds. Dr. Wayne Dyer, whose books on personal transformation have touched the lives of millions of people, inspired my current writing path. His work helped me discover that I too have a message to share with the world, that my voice can transcend the written word and touch my reader’s heart. Ultimately, that inspiration led me to write Growing Your SELF!.

Q: How does writing help you make a difference in the world?

My passion is helping people transform their lives, and writing is a huge part of how I convey my message. Even though we are living in the digital age and surrounded by multimedia, writing remains an essential part of the communication equation. My writing now takes many forms, I write books, e-books, articles, blog posts, programs, workbooks, and scripts for audio and video presentations, which are all quite different in format, but they all serve the same purpose - to get my message of hope and opportunity out to as many people as possible. So although the format my differ, my writing is my way to show people that they don’t have to be stuck any longer, that they can make changes, that they can have the happiness they really want.

Q: What was your path to publication?

I decided early on that self-publishing would be the way to go. Traditional publishing seems too risky and time consuming. I wanted to get my book to market right away, and the only way to do that was to do it myself. So I dove into the marketplace, did a little research, and chose CreateSpace, an Amazon company, to self-publish Growing Your SELF!. The process was relatively painless, and now I have a published book available through bookstores and on Amazon itself.

Q: What do you do when you are not writing?

When I am not writing or working on my business, you will typically find me with my wife, Donna, enjoying life’s adventures or simply spending quiet time together. Donna, aside from being my biggest supporter, is also my best friend and soul mate. We have a very special relationship and are committed to helping each other reach our dreams. I also read and listen to a lot of personal development and self-growth material. Personal success and learning how to overcome life’s challenges is more than just something I study for my career as an author and success coach, it is something that I am passionate about applying in my own life and sharing with the world.

Q: What gave you the idea (inspiration) for this book?

The idea for Growing Your SELF! grew from my personal coaching philosophy and practice. I found that the best way to create meaningful, positive personal changes in my clients and students was to create those changes on multiple levels at once. Over the last four years I refined how I helped people in my coaching practice, integrating powerful techniques and tools, and creating special mental exercises that help quicken the change process. Distilling that process into a book that could help millions of people seemed like the next logical step, and since the title had been bouncing around inside my head for quite some time, all I had to do was put fingers to keyboard and start writing.

Q: What were some of the challenges you faced in writing your non-fiction books?

I had two major challenges writing the book, both of which were of my own creation. My first challenge was my fear of not being good enough, of not being worthy of being an ‘Author’. This fear arose in spite of my success as a coach and it is something that a lot of people have to deal with. My second challenge was procrastination, which I am really, really good at. I would sit down to work on my book and find myself doing everything else but working on my book - I would organize my desk, check my email, put on a motivational mp3, or even work on something else altogether. Luckily, I conquered both challenges by stepping back and asking myself what I really wanted. The answer was, I really wanted to write this book, so I kept going in spite of my fear and in spite of my tendency to procrastinate. I kept going until I had reached my goal of finishing my manuscript.
