teaching compassion

-- Quote of the Day --

I am fundamentally an optimist. Whether that comes from nature or nurture, I cannot say. Part of being optimistic is keeping one's head pointed toward the sun, one's feet moving forward. There were many dark moments when my faith in humanity was sorely tested, but I would not and could not give myself up to despair. That way lays defeat and death.” ~Nelson Mandela

Miracle-kids.net has a wonderful program (Hand to Paw) going in the US that is helping young people from a troubled past make a difference by caring for homeless animals. The youth learn how to love and care for other living beings, grow a healthy respect for volunteering and nonprofit organizations, and increase the content on their resume by developing new skills and gaining work experience. Since many animal related fields accept volunteer work experience as valid entry skill training, and this eases their acceptance into a wide array of programs.
