A Word From The Authors

A Word From The Authors

A few years ago I was a guest on the Transparency Talks Podcast where we discussed the behind the scenes aspects of being an entrepreneurs, and the importance of taking time off... something I still struggle with.

I had a chance to listen to this discussion again recently and felt that this particular quote might be helpful for our readers... if you want to access the full Transparency Talks Podcast interview visit the link below.

"Taking time off is my personal challenge! So when we have time off, all these things that I wanted to bring to Dave’s attention - I remind myself: Let's not talk about business right now. That's my personal challenge is to shut off my brain.

As far as scheduling personally time together we literally schedule it in. We say: 'okay this day we're gonna take from three o'clock on off and we're gonna go have
some deck time, or we're gonna go out in the gardens, or play with the dogs, or watch some movies'.

We decide we're going to do and that's that. We turn off the computer; the phone is turned off.

I am actually very much diligent about turning things off, and I rarely answer a ringing phone. If I"m not expecting your call, I'm going to be busy doing something else. I never feel guilty about doing this; that is what Voice Mail is for.

When it is down-time, the office the computer gets turned off, my phone is turned off ...everything is turned off  - because i don't want to be distracted by the bling bling of stuff going off in the office and feeling like I need to take care of it.

I think that's the only way to handle it when you're self-employed.”
