Kudo's to citizen science

Here is a great example of how citizen science projects really do have a powerful impact.  Recently we celebrated Global Bird Weekend, which sparked several hundred thousand events for people to enjoy. It was also a great opportunity for the many successful fundraising activities for thousands of nonprofits.  Events like this help bring awareness to the amazing work that volunteers and nonprofits are doing, the impact they are having and to play a small role in supporting their efforts. Participants leave with a renewed sense of appreciation for the diversity found in nature. However events like this also offer a great opportunity for the science community to collaborate with everyday citizens to gather valuable data.  During the Global Bird Weekend a new world record was made when participants from over 200 countries volunteered to spend some time looking for birds armed with a pair of binoculars. Most volunteers also used their camera to capture an image and make it e...

World of Blogging - Interview

World of Blogging - Interview with Steph Warren Steph Warren and I met way back in 2021 when we began publishing each other's articles and featuring each other's work. I published an article of hers in September. Later in Feb. '23 we had featured an author interview with her. Today she drops in to share a vast amount of valuable information for anyone looking to start a blog, manage their existing blog or find great resources to help them along the way. Steph has run the Bookshine & Readbows blog since 2017.  "It was an author and friend who recommended I give blogging a go," s he explains. "Since then I have published many reviews; made more author, blogger and reader friends; and built up a small (but passionate) array of paid editing services". Her blog clearly shows that she is interested in many book genres, however when she heads out to buy a book for her personal use she leans towards books that are stuffed with comedic fantasy. She especial...

Recommended Resources

The  Recommended Resources  series has been published on this blog since we transferred it from the  Brummet's Muse  biweekly newsletter that ran for 6 years or so, many years ago. When we closed it down, we decided that we just had to continue this series here on this blog and have been doing so now for nearly 2 decades. With this series, Dave and I have the pleasure of sharing some great resources which can include  - positive impact organizations and events - citizen science projects  - helpful articles, amazing resources & exciting interviews We hope our readers will reach out to thank them for their work, find a way to network with them, share these sites with others or get involved in some way. ** Want to see a non-profit listed here? - Send us a  FaceBook   or  LinkedIn  message. Poetry Time

Poetry Time ! Most of you know already that Dave & I enjoy  Playing With Words , which is why we chose that name for the series of poetry books.  Women's Jealousy won many awards and was an easy choice to include in Towards Understanding , the 1st book in the  Playing With Words   series .   WOMEN'S JEALOUSY The girl in white lace and shiny gray stockings, Attacks every man with her nightmarish taunting. Her beauty is rare, her movements are sure. Her casual flirting leaves minds in a blur. Women both hate her and dote on her too. They wish they could be that woman anew. But they're only themselves - though jealous they be; Thinking from women like that, no man would flee. But she's covered in make-up and shading and light. And she'll take many photos until she gets it just right. These women wish with all of their foolish might, That they forget who their man's with tonight. As they wrack themselves over this orchestrated myth, They enlarge the distance fr...

Cut Out The Negativity

Back in August I started a series of articles about getting through darkness whether it be caused by stress, anxiety, chronic pain, illness, grief or depression.  Looking back on my own struggle with darkness, I could see a pattern - by taking tiny steps toward positivity and I could slowly drag myself out of the depths of the darkness and the heavy suction pull of its vacuum.  Today we continue this discussion with another simple positive habit for you, along with a few examples to help you apply it to your own daily life. Cut Out The Negativity When darkness comes in to our lives it is important to cut negative things out. Especially when we are easily triggered and feel vulnerable, susceptible to negativity. We can change this simply by feeding our minds with positivity, and eradicating anything negative.  Embrace Silence  Keep the device controls handy so that you can silence ads by pressing mute and wait patiently for them to end. Better yet, use that moment to ...

Book Review

Book Review I love the cover design for  Beyond The Fifth Gate ( by Donna Sundblad )! T ypically, book cover designers are not looking to tell the story, but rather stop readers from scrolling long enough to check out the book. This book cover design does both, hinting at the storyline without revealing hardly a thing. I like how the title is spaced between the planets to imply travel. I personally feel the book cover design for Beyond The Fifth Gate is exceptional.  Instantly after finishing Beyond The Fifth Gate - I kept saying: " What a fantastic read that was! "  I had to take several days to digest it a bit before writing my review article for this project. In that time, I've spoken enthusiastically to my husband about it and now he wants to read it too.  The author provides readers with an incredibly unique and deeply entertaining ride... I didn't find myself skipping ahead out of boredom (which I often do). In between reading sessions I found myself often thi...

Quote of the Day
