Kootenay Author Mobile Book Store

You never know where networking can lead. I reached out to  Paullette Francoeur   in September, after seeing her FaceBook post celebrating her new venture: The Kootenay Author Mobile Book Store .  How exciting to find that she was just as enthusiastic about networking, and after a single meeting we felt like fast friends. It turns out she spent her childhood in Creston and her family home was just a few blocks from our house. Paullette recently returned to the area with her family in tow. She has a great entrepreneurial spirit and I'm sure her new venture will be successful.  I am proud to announce that she will now showcasing 6 of our books in this mobile store. It is an honour to be set among dozens of other Kootenay-based authors !!!  Paullette invites you to watch for her banner (see image above) and stop by for a visit. She will be serving Sasquatch Coffee (a local coffee company that she partnered with),  and showcasing her first book, Landed-Oceans, Lakes, and Laundry  -

Greek Dark Ages

Today we are joined by Martin Hahn who grew up in South-East Asia and moved to Europe where he delved into the fields of scientific research,  in organizational and industrial sociology,   radio journalism, and management consulting for the next 12 years. Whew!  After returning to  Asia he spent the next 24 years as a management consultant, university lecturer, corporate trainer, and international school teacher and administrator.  Currently he is working as a senior educator in an international school.   * Martin sure has experienced a great deal in his life so far!  Having been moving around so much and being in constant contact with people with differing cultural backgrounds and different nationalities, he has realized the importance of communication in general and intercultural communication in particular. When asked about his current passion he has this to say: "Peaceful coexistence is only possible if open communication channels are kept open all the time. Effective communic

Recommended Resources

The  Recommended Resources  series has been published on this blog since we transferred it from the Brummet's Muse biweekly newsletter that ran for 6 years or so. When we closed it down, we decided that the resources were just too amazing not to continue. With this series, I have the pleasure of sharing some great resources which can include - positive impact organizations and events, citizen science projects and links to helpful articles. Feel free to check out their websites, and perhaps send them a note of appreciation for what they do. It would, of course, be fantastic if you see a way to network with them or get involved some how, or possibly share their information with your networks. Conserving Working Forests

* Source: The Moss is Columbia Land Trust's monthly e-newsletter. Funding awarded to conserve 6,300 acres of working forest in Trout Lake, Washington We are excited to share the success of a funding application we submitted in partnership with The Conservation Fund, the Washington Department of Natural Resources, and Green Diamond Resource Company.     The $8,250,000 award will enable the future conservation of 6,378 acres of forestland outside Trout Lake, Washington, through the federal Forest Legacy Program.    The project will help support a thriving forestry workforce in south central Washington, underpinning hundreds of jobs. When completed, this conservation effort will also protect Trout Lake’s drinking water supply, conserve critical habitat for fish and wildlife, and ensure public recreation access, which is a thriving contributor to the regional economy. Understanding Self-Employment

Whether you have published one book, sold a few pieces of art, run a blog, teach others, offer creative crafts, or write articles… whatever you do as a self-employed person it is vital to run this as a real business. You have to learn how to schedule activities and stick to the schedule, while being somewhat flexible too. Querying and marketing, record keeping, managing the blog, bookkeeping and tax prep, shopping for supplies and cleaning will all need to be added to the schedule. Communications too can eat a surprising amount of time. Writers, especially free-lance writers, learn to send multiple queries for different topics out at a time so they can have a steady stream of income. As such there is a lot of behind-the-scenes activity in running a business.  Visit Amazon to find this, and other books, by the Brummets It is vital to have a love of learning and to relish multi-tasking. When first starting out it is important to read every book one can find on the many aspects of the car

World Of Writing - Author Interview

Loyal readers are already aware that doing interviews has become part of my DNA. (ha ha) It all started when I was a staff writer for an alternative magazine looking at unique individuals doing amazing things. That focus carried on to a radio show that I ran (with Dave behind the scenes) for over 10 years - it aired 3 x per week featuring interviews with guests from across the globe sharing their efforts to make the world a better place. I find interviews can be truly inspirational and a wealth of knowledge gained from the experiences they choose to share... and it is such a great experience for me to have continued on this long-running blog (20 years in May 2024)! Today's featured guest is fellow Canadian author, Chantal Bellehumeur - who has 19 published books of various genres that you can find on Amazon . That is so impressive! Dave and I together have only 6 available, but a trilogy coming out soon... making that 9. And we are exhausted! lol  Chantal has written in many differ

Understanding Business Basics (part 4)

This is the fourth and final installment in this particular series of articles.  Earlier in August I was inspired to create a 4 part article series offering thought-provoking steps to developing your business and creating an effective marketing plan. This series is, in fact, based on the first section of the Purple Snowflake Marketing book of ours - I'll share more info about the book at the end of this piece.  Today I'll be sharing a few more homework assignments for you to continue this journey.  Extra Homework Assignment #1: Schedule a one-hour session per week and use that time to begin scrolling through the Brummet's Conscious Blog archives to find interviews with entrepreneurs, marketing experts, authors, poets, bloggers, podcast hosts, publishers, agents ...and many others. Each interview will offer insight, resources, advice, tips that could benefit you.   Might as well learn from the experts, right? For those involved in the writing industry, look for the Just For
