An interesting new technology is now available to convert landfill leachate into reusable water… using reverse osmosis membrane technology and vibration systems. 

Because of this - landfills no longer have to worry about leachates affecting surrounding lands, rains flooding out leachate ponds and other problems associated with leachates.
