International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict Day

Have you heard of the "International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict Day" ?  Well... it is today. 

Yeah, that is a really, really, really long title for this international awareness day.

Basically, it brings awareness to how conflict affects the health of the environment and increases earnest interest to finding peaceful conflict resolution. 

So much conflict has arisen throughout the history of mankind over resources from grazing land, to water access... from diamond and mineral mining ...to strategic dominion locations. 

In the name of war - forests have been decimated, natural areas defoliated, soils have been poisoned, animals slaughtered and water tainted... all in an effort to gain advantage in war. 

The UN recognized this as a very important day to set aside to raise awareness and made it official back in 2001. Check out the events that might be happening in your area, as scientists, journalists, educators, business and government officials rally to bring attention to this difficult topic via seminars, speeches, online chats, interviews and articles.
