Freelance Writing - advice

Freelance Writing For Beginners * Today's article was submitted by Elise Brooke (with  minor edits to this article done by Lillian Brummet).  Elise manages the My NZ Dream Blog and has authored several books.  She has over 24 years of experience in the world of writing and holds a Creative Writing Diploma.   How to get started in freelance work 1. Having a Creative Writing qualification and experience helps 2. Brand yourself, e.g copy writer, content writer 3. Get experience, build references and work samples 4. Find work and keep finding work To brand yourself - try to look at the concept of your value as a person, a one-person-business, not just as a writer. Branding is how you communicate your value.  Start by asking: What value do I bring? What is my niche or topic? (Pick only one or two.) What is my style? How do I write, the words I use, if I write in a casual or formal way. Once you have established the above create a mission statement answering t...

quote of the day

Quote of the Day © BrummetMedia.ca "Your mother is always with you.  She's the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street,  she's the smell of certain foods you remember,  flowers you pick,  the fragrance of life itself.  She's the cool hand on your brow when you're not feeling well,  she's your breath in the air on a cold winter's day.  She is the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep,  the colours of a rainbow,  she is Christmas morning.  Your mother lives inside your laughter.  She's the place you came from,  your first home,  and she's the map you follow with every step you take.  She's your first love,  your first friend,  even your first enemy;  but nothing on earth can separate you.  Not time.  Not space.  ...not even death." ~ Author unkown ~~   Visit the Brummet's   Main Website Find them elsewhere online  HERE   ~~

Social Media 101

Social Media 101 for Entrepreneurs There is no denying that social media outlets are valuable tools to use in your marketing activities. However, the key to success for business owners is to sensibly plan the time they spend on social media.  You will need to consider the kinds of social media you will be using, what could be announced and how often to post. Pacing out social media activities avoids over-saturation of the market. Keeping the content fresh can also be a challenge. Ask yourself: Is there a way to run a fundraising campaign for a worthy cause? Is your office willing to collect items for the food bank? Perhaps you have decided to set up recycling bins for items like batteries and light bulbs and returnable beverage containers that your clients can also use. Or perhaps your office can set up a contest. Maybe your work place has had some improvements or a new mural was painted on the building. Perhaps you can get a project happening with your contacts. Maybe you can put ...
