- Skip that tricky section and write the next paragraph, chapter or ending to the book.

- Glance at your tentative marketing plan for this project and review who the audience is and what the focus is - this can sometimes reconfigure a writer's ideas into a more organized and achievable level.

-- Quick Writing Tip  --

  • Use Correct Grammar and full sentences.

When communicating with others, be very sure you are not communicating in an overly casual way. Use correct grammar, punctuation and communicate using full sentences. Members of the media cringe when they receive queries that are written incorrectly. You are telling them a lot of negative things when they get a communication with blatant errors and short, brief ungraceful language. You are saying that they are not worth your time or effort, however you still want them to do things for you. You are saying that you are going to be very difficult to work with and they will likely be facing a lot of editing and possibly formatting because you will not do it correctly. That is what members of the media see when you are sloppy or use broken sentences. It is extremely disrespectful to achieve the approval for an interview and then provide short, brief, self-promoting and uninteresting answers. How you appear online represents who you are - and members of the media will see you there too. One of the first things we do is check your social networking sites to see what kind of person you are. If you have a lot of party pictures, inappropriate or politically incorrect language... they will want to know that before working with you because who they work with affects their reputation too.

Some time ago I was listening to Jeff Beale's Mr Marketology Bootcamp Podcast interview with LJ Haywood and found it quite inspiring. You see, Mr. Haywood discovered ways of using the podcast to market his business services in an unusual way. In fact, he wasn't planning to sell to the podcast audience.

He started by seeking topics that would appeal to a like-minded podcast audience. Once those decisions were made, he went about seeking guests that could speak on these topics. His intent here was not to sell his business services to the audience, but to the experts that appeared as guests on his blog. The podcast interview cracked open the door for Mr. Haywood to then follow up on solidifying the relationship and convert those expert guests over to clients.
