Our New Place
Yes - we found a fantastic "tiny-home"! Thank you - by the way - for your patience during this transition of moving our home and studio to new locations :)
We fully expected to easily find a smaller home, but found that in reality it was a more difficult task. It seems even the retirement communities cater to people with larger tastes and vast wallets. The places that had 55+ community living outlets were either out of our price range, had nothing available or didn't allow dogs. Well, our dogs are precious and they are coming with us. There's no debate about that. So we started to get real anxious...
Will we find a place in time?
What if we cannot find a community that accepts dogs?
Luckily one of our former neighbours went through a similar life-event - they sold their house that was across from us and moved into a 55+ adult only mobile home park. Ironically the park owner was rebuilding an older trailer located right across from our friend's. While this home wasn't ready to be listed on the market yet, the owner allowed us to view the mobile home as is. Well, we bought this totally rebuilt mobile home and that means everything is new from insulation to appliances.
Sounds amazing, right?
It totally is! ...But it comes with some costs.
The new siding needs washing, caulking, painting touchups. The mini entry deck needed a railing that had to be built within 30 days from move-in date in order to comply with the insurance. The deck also needs some kind of covering over the plywood flooring. The "yard" was a construction site / mud pit and needed a great deal of work - and there was old garden bed frames, rotten wood fence pieces, a shed that's falling apart... no lawn, ...and no fence. We put up a temporary fence for the dogs but plan on putting in a proper one soon.
On the interior, the caulking and other finish work had to be done, handles installed, appliances and fixtures to purchase like towel racks and shower-head, curtain rod, etc. Dave had to install a closet organizer, fix a wide array of things and spend a few days on his aching knees to work on the forced air vents... and that was just in the first few weeks.
The reduced price was based on these things needing to be done, and is why we got this place at such a great deal.
However - it will take a couple years before we complete the list of do's, and this means there will be a lot of ongoing cost and energy put into making this place just right for our future.
Yet when all the dust settles in the end, it will be kind of like a custom home, just right for our life here.
On the plus side... (no pun intended)... I was able to reduce my body weight by 15 pounds in just 9 weeks!
Woohoo!
OK, I'm kinda embarrassed that I have that kind of weight to lose, actually. But also celebrating that I'm getting in better shape. lol
