Poetry Time !

The Dove, The Wind & The Light was written fairly recently - in June 2023. Most of you know already that Dave & I enjoy Playing With Words, which is why we chose that name for our series of poetry books.  

While this particular poem has been published, is not however, part of the Playing With Words series.

The Dove, The Wind & The Light

Soaring - flirting - embracing

She flies above.

The wind she is facing

Try how it might to alter her plans.

Oh it blew a blustery gust,

And hurled a changing breeze,

But she embraced them with ease.

With a glint in her eye 

She gently lifted a feather

And bent the wind to her will.

More aviators join in,

Various sizes and shapes,

Swooping and swaying,

Diving at delicious morsels

That I cannot see... 

Though I lift my face and witness

The wonder wings shatter the light

Like feathered prisms.

My eyes return of their own free will

For her under-wings of silver

Shine and sparkle and sway

And among those caws and cackles

And sweet singing voices,

Her gentle "coo" 

"coo-coo" 

...lifts her mate's head.

Without thought he responds

Automatically reassuring 

"I am here" he seems to say, 

"The babies are fine and ... girl... 

I do love you so". 

Her blushing response 

As she rushes to his feathered kisses

Sends a smile, a grin in fact

To my uplifted face

Reflecting stupefied awe.
