Greener Auto Industry

-- Kudos --  Kudos to the Toyota Motor Corporation who created the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050 plan – to reduce negative impacts of today’s motorized vehicles and better yet, to increase the positive impact they can have.  The aim is to cut C02 by 90% and recyclability will be increased to 100% by 2050.  The company plans to increase renewable energy, water and hydrogen reduction policies.  You may have heard of the company’s environmental programs, however I think you’ll hear more about them in the future since the company is expanding projects that focus on nature conservation. Used oil and its effects on the environment

-- Used oil and its effects on the environment --   * Today's article was written by: Greg Chapman of Greg Chapman Motors - a knowledgeable and leading provider of used cars, trucks, and SUV’s. Since 1959, Chapman Motors has supplied reliable used cars in Austin and the surrounding . For more information please visit www.gregchapmanmotors.com .   Motor oil leaked from individual vehicles—or outright dumped by homeowners and commercial garages inevitably finds its way into local water bodies. Topsoil and natural vegetation would ordinarily filter many of these pollutants out, but the impermeable pavement that covers much of the surface where these pollutants originate carries it right into storm drains and into streams, rivers, lakes and the ocean where it can poison marine life—which we might eat—as well as entire riparian or coastal ecosystems. This pollution also finds its way into underground aquifers that supply our drinking water, s...

Vehicle Recycling News

-- Quote of the Day -- "To see what is right, and not to do it, is want of courage or of principle."  ~ Lisa Alther  -- Positive Eco-News -- Kudos to Balfour Towing & Salvage & owner Eric Etelamaki  - a Kootenay towing company (BC, Canada) - that has stockpiled over 300 vehicles and is now processing them for recycling. On his own, he researched and came up with a fluid extraction system and crushing system – incorporating the SEDA fluid evacuation technology – using powerful pumps and barrels for proper storage of fluids like antifreeze and oil, removing and separating mercury switches, batteries, tires and more …which are then picked up by recycling companies. The last process is the crushing system that compacts the vehicle shells and then they are shipped to metal recyclers.  This inspiring example of a company going above and beyond, despite isolated location limitati...

Greener Vehicles

-- Quote of the Day -- "Look not back in anger, nor forward in fear - but around you in awareness." ~ Ross Hersey -- Positive Eco-News -- We hear a lot of bad news about the vehicle industry - but there are a lot of in-house changes going on in vehicle manufacture operations to celebrate.  While there are likely many other vehicle manufacturers offering green options and green in-house activities, I'd like to highlight one that I read recently about in the Recycling Product Newsletter that a Volvo Truck can have as much as 1/3 of it’s weight in recycled metals. Some of the best and usable parts are sold, others are separated in bins for iron, aluminum, plastics, copper, brass and the like. They say that not one bolt or piece of wire, not one scrap of a used truck goes to the landfill when it hits their recycling centers. In doing so they’ve been able to refine the manufacturing of new trucks to eliminate time or labor issues involved in ...

Conscious Communication, prizes & hybrid cars

-- Quote of the Day -- “ When we speak we speak, we speak from our own world, and the person listening is hearing it from their world. …A lot of times when the conversations are emotion filled – it is at those times when we need to stop and …consciously think about how we want to come across. So I if I give off a lot of negative behavior they will see this and not hear what I am saying. …85% of what we believe is what we see not what we hear. So when we are speaking we need to have the body language that supports our words. …Many times you’ll hear ‘It is not what you say but how you say it’. …Taking the time to reflect on how I can best tell this person what I need to say so that our relationship is not destroyed. …There is a tendency for us to believe that two monologues is a dialogue – but it is not. A dialogue is when each person understands that there is a vested interest in the relationship, in the message that is being sent, the response and in how we are both going to feel when ...
