“Motivation is an external, temporary high that PUSHES you forward. Inspiration is a sustainable internal glow which PULLS you forward.”

-- Positive News --

I recently learned of an inspiring non-profit organization known as The Japan Youth Ecology League (JYEL) - which encourages youth to get involved in environmental activities. They held an eco-friendly evaluation of universities in Japan and looked for activities both in-house and on the grounds or dorms of each university, including emissions, energy use, resource input, environmental impact, and other areas as well from recycling to land use. The The Mie University won first place for such innovative actions as creating a student point program that acts as an incentive for eco-friendly actions. They've also organized beach clean up events that happen 5 times per year!

Surveys show that many universities have chosen to become more Eco-saavy by changing over to renewable energy and taking on new technologies to reduce energy use as well.

Here in BC I've read of many compost programs and recycling programs being put into use that inspire large corporations as well, showing us that it is possible to do on a grand scale as well. Some BC schools and universities are now growing a portion of the food consumed in the classroom and cafeteria, purchasing locally grown and organic and healthy snacks as well. Recycling is just part of every day activities and is considered normal now.

These are just some of the wonderful changes we have seen in the world in just a few years.
