You'll also find links to our radio shows which feature authors, storytellers, poets, playwrights, reviewers, publishers, publicity agents and more.

“…Marketing fiction and marketing nonfiction, I think, require a lot of different things. Being self-published and hiring a book publicist for fiction is not a great of a way to spend money. I would use that money to create a viral buzz online. …Where as if you have a nonfiction book, and it is a reference book like mine, having a publicist may have some benefit to the author. …Online advertising does not work well for fiction; the conversion rates just don’t work...”
~ Mark Levine 10/2/08

-- Small Businesses & Global Warming --

The size of the staff that encompasses a business is not the determining factor on the impact that business can have on the planet. Each business owner needs to take some time to evaluate their activities and consider how the business can be run in such a way as to create the least amount of waste. Simply looking at alternatives when placing orders can make all the difference; such as choosing take out containers that are made from biodegradable food starches opposed to Styrofoam containers is a huge step in the right direction.

I was reading the November issue of the Alok Holistic Health Newsletter, which you can find at: www.alokhealth.com - and I thoroughly enjoyed the story about a mechanic’s garage he visited one day. Apparently the business offers bicycles to their customers to use while their vehicles are being repaired or serviced. The business also employs recycling as much as possible. What a great way to stimulate conscious thought and proactive action within the community!

By telling others, posting notices around the business and putting releases in local or in-house publications, the business will benefit by increased media attention, educating their consumer & find a way to help the business stand out from others. At the same time, the ripple effect of this kind of activity will be that other businesses in the community will realize that they better step up and show how they are trying to make a difference or else they might risk losing some of their profits to the conscious businesses in town!
