Taking Action

-- Quote of the Day --

"The temperature of the Earth's inner core is about 6,000 degrees Celsius (C) -- almost the same as the surface of the Sun -- and it is estimated that 99 percent of Earth's volume is at a temperature of more than 1,000 degrees. Thus, there is an enormous amount of geothermal energy in the planet's interior that could potentially be tapped"

-- Taking Action --

People can make a huge difference in so many areas in their lives, and may not realize the impact they can have with simple actions.

For instance, did you know that by refraining from driving 2 family cars, and sharing one instead –along with public transit or cycling options – just by doing that one thing a family can reduce CO2 emissions by 6.4 tons?

Try going camping or vacationing locally instead of booking a flight to another country – and save 2.4 tons of greenhouse gas emissions this year.

Consider eating less red meet – cutting out beef from your daily diet (we are not talking about the occasional hamburger here, but we are talking about your regular meal planning…). Just cutting out beef from your regular menu planning can save 1.4 tons of C02!

Take cool or cold showers in the summer and reduce your personal production of greenhouse gases by at least .6 tons per year.

Small actions like opening the blinds to utilize daylight and shades to control the degree of sunlight you receive from each window can greatly reduce the amount of electricity spent on lighting. Mirrors, wall coloring and placing of furniture can also have a huge effect on the lighting. Closing the blinds to block out the sun in the summer greatly reduces the need for running fans and conditioners.

Here are a few other simple little things that we can consider using in our daily life:
Take the stairs – you save the energy it would have taken to run the elevator. Unplug appliances and electronics when not in use, and turn off the lights when you are not in the room.

All of these actions have a positive impact on the planet.

  1. We still need to find the technology to make use of this geothermal energy. So far we haven't been very succesful
