-- Quote of the Day --
“…An (animal rescue) hero
to me is a volunteer who is using their precious time to save an animal… a
person goes to the shelter and walk dogs as a volunteer, or they are out there
feeding feral cats every day… or they transfer pets to one area or another, or
make a donation like used towels to an animal rescue shelter… or a person who
takes their furry family member to get spayed or neutered because they know
that population control is important. …People can be what they call a part of
the leg; they have organizations where they are looking for people along the
way for transport… so it is kind of like passing along the baton, and they are
always looking for people to drive an hour or more to be part of the journey
(for the transport of the animal). …There are rescue centers pay for the costs
of fostering, but a lot of centers have a limited budget and will only supply
medical costs… however (in the US) foster parents can write off all the
expenses and their mileage as a tax right off because it is for a non-profit.”

Towards Understanding
A
Collection of 125 poems written in chronological order - Beginning
with her childhood trauma and leading into her journey of finding
healing and self worth, the author takes you on a roller coaster
ride of emotions through verse. In a style reminiscent of an artist
painting with colors she explores various poem-structures - uncommon
amongst modern poets.

Excerpt from the book:
EDUCATED LIES
I grieve for this
world, as it fights its wars;
Where humans, all
slam their doors;
Here, people
starve, knowing only pain...
While others,
rich, stake out their claims.
Sad to see...such
emptiness I feel.
This world can't
last forever;
Life's just a
one-time deal.
Man - thinking
ourselves unbeatable,
Tried to conquer
with knowledge we lacked.
Now, so far
destroyed, earth takes her final stance,
While we pray for
just one second chance.
We watch, knowing
what our children will see.
Helpless, we can't
undo this awful disease.
So watch, my
people, my educated men...
Just watch your
ancestor's victory descend,
While you sit at
your desks & thunder your speeches...
Cry, for your
child's child will live to die,
Because of
educated men...educated to lie.

The main reason I began using social media is to keep in touch with fellow rescue workers. Now I have rescue friends all over the world.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy hearing their stories, even though many bring tears.
Yes, it is so very inspiring to hear the heart-warming stories and to be reminded that there are others out there who really care, who are working hard to make the world a better place for the animals. If you want to enter our contest for a copy of my poetry book... I'll need your address though :)
