Master of My Fate

-- Quote of the Day --  “Perpetual consciousness is always being present in your life; never looking ahead nor looking backward - because when you are present all heaven breaks loose and you are living in divine circumstances in all moments. The future and the past are totally irrelevant for in the moment for which you reside.” ~ Steven Hairfield Today’s quote originates from the Conscious Discussions Talk Radio episode that aired back on March 26, 2013… http://tobtr.com/s/4553257   (*Click on the link to access the full discussion)  -- Poetry Month -- In honor of Poetry Month I've taken the liberty to share a couple of my own poems this month and today I'd like to share one of my late-mother's favorites: Invictus * author unknown Out of the night that covers me Black as the pit from pole to pole I thank whatever gods may be ...

Will we be a locust species, Leaving nature in little pieces? Or will we spread wings to be Stewards like the bumblebee? We are a species, who in essence Have survived by physical senses. Yet we can change our self, And change the world. Struggling for isolation Living by definition Yet there’s unity in our di...

Contest! - and animals

-- Quote of the Day -- “… An (animal rescue) hero to me is a volunteer who is using their precious time to save an animal… a person goes to the shelter and walk dogs as a volunteer, or they are out there feeding feral cats every day… or they transfer pets to one area or another, or make a donation like used towels to an animal rescue shelter… or a person who takes their furry family member to get spayed or neutered because they know that population control is important. …People can be what they call a part of the leg; they have organizations where they are looking for people along the way for transport… so it is kind of like passing along the baton, and they are always looking for people to drive an hour or more to be part of the journey (for the transport of the animal). …There are rescue centers pay for the costs of fostering, but a lot of centers have a limited budget and will only supply medical costs… however (in the US) foster parents can write off all the expense...

Celebrating Poetry Month

-- Poetry Month -- April is Poetry Month ...as such we'll offer several poems throughout this month on our blog. The first one I'd like to share today is a poem I wrote called In Our Midst, which will be included in an upcoming book of poetry scheduled for late 2012. For those of you interested in other published poetry, check out my book: Towards Understanding on www.brummet.ca In Our Midst How can we justify this life? With every breath that we take Can we influence this hard world Is there power in the hands Of This boy or this girl There are heroes in our midst And you know that they exist They exist in you and I We are the heroes in our midst How can we waste away this life? When every breath is a gift A chance to choose whatever fits To make some wrong right Or ease somebody’s plight How can we whine about this life? When those who passed before had Passed through rougher roads and more And when looked at in...

writer interview #8 :)

-- Writer Interview #8 :) -- As many of you are already aware, we are participating in a special event throughout April & May (Poetry & Library Month), helping to spread literacy and the love of reading to a wider audience. David Fingerman is our featured author of the day, and he can be found at: www.davidfingerman.com. * BK Walker has been behind this - the full schedule for the participating authors is: http://bkwalkerbooks.weebly.com/virtual-book-tours.html Q: So, David – tell us, what motivates you to write? I hate to sound cliché (a terrible thing for a writer) but pretty much everything motivates me to write. I can be taking a walk and something might catch my eye, or sitting in a restaurant and inhale an odd scent or overhear a snippet of conversation, or even be staring at my computer screen when I'll get a flash of an idea. Then my brain goes " What if . . .?" And with a little twisting around ~ there's the beginning of a new story. I...

Literacy

-- Quote of the Day -- " If you're going to be a writer, the first essential is just to write. Do not wait for an idea. Start writing something and the ideas will come. You have to turn the faucet on before the water starts to flow ." ~ Louis L'Amour -- Taking Literacy for Granted -- Today's post comes from Fiona Ingram who is here to share her thoughts on childhood literacy, a passion of hers. Fiona’s earliest story-telling talents came to the fore when, from the age of ten, she entertained her three younger brothers and their friends with serialized tales of children undertaking dangerous and exciting exploits, which they survived through courage and ingenuity. After 15 years in the field of journalism, Fiona has released a children’s adventure series, Chronicles of the Stone – the first installment of this series has already been released and the second is on the way. Find Fiona at: http://fionaingramauthor.blogspot.com I love this piece Fiona wrote for us ...
