Q: So, Francis - let's start with the path you took to publication...
A: With my latest book, I simply sent a synopsis, bio and some
writing samples to various publishers; luckily I had a positive answer.
Q:What is your proudest writer moment?
A: Having a book published, is a special moment. Doing a
reading in a café in Paris left me with great memories. Doing an author's evening while living in Paris... a fantastic experience. I recall these moments fondly; they are all particularly good moments to savour.
Q: What is your most embarrassing writer moment?
A:I am yet
to have one, but like all writers I live in fear of typos or mistakes of this
nature.
Q: What is the important role that writers play in
today’s world?
A: They can make people see the world in a different way.
They can pass on the legacy of the significance of reading and the basic
pleasure of books. They can include important messages in the stories; for example Adventures of Death, Reincarnation and Annihilation, the
destructiveness of the human race is a theme that is apparent.
Q: Where do you get your plot concepts? (who/what is your
inspiration)
A: An idea can surface at anytime. Something pops into my
head and if it is a strong idea, I will pursue it and develop it. I read trashy
newspapers sometimes and some story might resonate and I might imagine that a
story can evolve from it. Watching films offers a lot of ideas. I could watch a
film in a foreign language, so I have to guess what is going on, this in turn
might inspire a plot.
Q: When starting a book project do you choose the title
first, or does that come later?
A: When it comes to short story writing, titles seem to lead the way for me. One of my short stories in my book Flight of Destiny is called Bugeyes, it is
a story about a person with unusually large eyes. A project I am working on at
the moment was born out of a title I am the Priest Killer.
