Product Review
Hemp Towels / Washcloths / Pads
Today is the third installment of a 3-part product review series we published here on this blog. Jesse Clymer, from HempAuthority.com, sent several different items, so we split them into groups. You can find the 2 previously published articles on April 21st and May 8th.
As a crop, hemp offers incredible benefits to farmers and the environment. The taproot of this plant reaches very far down into the earth, pulling up valuable nutrients from deep in the soil and bringing them up for the next succession crop to benefit from. The plant can actually cleanse contaminated soil, while the leaves produce more oxygen and sequester more carbon dioxide than any other crop. The plants require no fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides and require a great deal less water than many commercial crops. According to Canada.ca hemp has proven to “be a hardy, fast growing, resilient and high yield crop”. In fact, 1 acre of hemp can produce as much paper as 4 acres of trees, per growing season… the trees can only be harvested once and recovery time can be 20 years before another crop of trees can be harvested.
According to Ecological Agricultural Projects: hemp as a “biomass fuel can provide for all of Canada’s gas, oil and coal energy needs”. The oil extracted from hemp seed is second only to whale oil in quality, and is considered an ideal nutritional supplement for both humans and animals. Once the oil is extracted, the remaining pulp is second only to soya bean for plant-based protein and nutrition.
Hemp can be made into many things and 3D technology is embracing the fact that hemp is such a versatile material. Check out these two links to learn more about Hempcrete (used like concrete) and hemp houses. Hemp fibres naturally offer antimicrobial and wicking properties and produce a very durable and long-lasting fabric; which leads us into the products below.
Today I’ll be sharing my experiences with several hemp-blend cloth products HempAuthority.com sent us: a kitchen towel, a washcloth, a hand towel and 2 small pads. * Prices listed below are in US funds.
The 100% organic washcloth retails at $5 per cloth, but prices go down when you buy more than one at a time. The cloth measures 8” x 8” and is different on each side – one being smooth like soft swede. While the other side offers a little more texture, perfect for exfoliating.
The cloth is kind of creamy in colour and is appealing to those looking for a calm, natural look.
I clicked on the ‘additional information’ section for this product and learned that there are trim options available: natural, blue, green, yellow, black, pink or choose assorted colours.
As you can see in the pic mine has a natural trim, which I personally prefer. The washcloth feels a little small for what I'm used to however I have converted it to an eyeglass cleaning cloth, it is so soft and cleans them sparkling clear :) .

The hemp kitchen towels retail for $9 each, are made of 100% organic hemp cotton blend terry fabric, and like the washcloth – the price goes down with larger orders. It also has several different trim options to choose from. The towels measure 7.5’ x 25” and offer two different water-absorbing textures.
The off-white, hemp hand towel (9” x 16”) is made from 100% organic blend of hemp and cotton fleece. A soft and absorbent cloth just big enough to dry the hands comfortably. It can withstand normal wash settings but it is recommended to choose the gentle setting when possible.
The reusable makeup rounds are roughly 3” in size and will replace most disposable beauty and cleansing pads and thereby reducing waste heading to the landfill. The 100% organic fabric (55% hemp, 45% cotton fleece) will actually resist oil, dirt and residue, making the task of doing laundry at gentle settings a breeze (using a delicates laundry bag is recommended).
*dime & nickel were added for perspective |
These work wonderfully for face scrubs and non-fragrant medical creme application as well. Washable means we are no longer tossing out yet another item, continually buying more and dealing with the packaging... just wash, and reuse. Perfect!
