Hemp Socks

Jesse Clymer of HempAuthority.com sent us several different items for review, so I decided to split them into groups and offer a series of 3 review articles * Watch for them on April 7th , April 21st (today) and May 8th.

Interestingly, I realized that back in 2013 I had taken on another review project for this company; which you can find HERE. If you are interested in more products in this genre, here is a different review on hemp products that I did in 2018 for the Choose Natural store. As you can see, hemp can be made into just about anything from surfboards and hemp flooring, to the hemp djembe (hand drum) my husband Dave makes.

One quick look at the HempAuthority.com site shows they offer a wide variety of items; clothing and accessories, natural beauty products, pain management and hemp hearts – aka hulled seeds. By the way - Have you ever tried hemp seed or nutritional oil before? They are fantastic! Try replacing olive oil with hemp oil in salad dressing recipes and tabouli dishes. Hemp seeds are the size of sesame seeds, are soft and taste a lot like pine nuts. As such, they are fantastic additions to pretty much anything you’d put sesame seeds or pine nuts in.

This company has a lot more to offer on their website – check out their cooking blog offering recipes with hemp nuts and hemp oil. Yum!  Under the Home-Goods section they offer paper products, books, notebooks, wicking, twine and more. Or check out the Learn section where you can find myth busting facts and take a hemp quiz to test your knowledge.

Jesse sent us 2 pairs of hemp ankle socks, one medium and one large pair.

Myself, being a size 8 (wide) tried the medium and found them a little snug at first but the fabric relaxed and became quite comfortable… cozy, in fact. Dave is a size 12 and wore the large size for a full day, telling me his results.

Dave found them quite snug around the toe area but, like my experience, he felt them relax and form to his feet. Both of us had marks on our ankles after wearing them the first day, from the pressure of the socks against our legs. However, I’m thinking that since they relaxed almost immediately upon putting on the first time, they might relax a bit more with some use.

Dave felt these were akin to high quality cotton socks, and rightly so – since these socks are indeed 60% cotton. They also have 5% spandex, and 35% hemp.

We also received 2 pairs of medium-sized knit socks, wrapped in a similar paper band. These are the softest work or hiking socks you’ll ever wear. Super comfortable enough to wear around the house on those cool, damp evenings and winter weather.

These two different styles of socks do not require special washing or drying instructions, are comfortable and cozy - other than 'cool' wash cycles and 'warm' dryer settings. I have only washed them once so far and they did look a little smaller but they actually fit just fine. These are now my favourite socks.

Hemp fibres naturally offer antimicrobial and wicking properties and produce a very durable and long-lasting fabric; an ideal material for socks. I appreciated the fact that there were no plastic tags or hooks, or metal staples running through the sock fabric, potentially damaging the brand new socks upon removal. They were simply encased in a recyclable paper band.
