Career Advice

Business owners rarely sit back and just relax because the business is constantly evolving. Over the years you'll discover what makes your business special, the aspects that are unique - the things you offer that are hard to find elsewhere. But these things, too, will change as you adapt to the market, produce alternative products or services, and learn new skills.

You'll discover new tools to run the business, new products to ease your tasks, new resources that you hope to find the time to try out, new outlets to research and possibly build networking relationships with. One must not be afraid of trying new opportunities from converting your published print book over to a flipbook or a hardcover book, utilizing new tools such as a short story publishing service, or branching out into speaking publicly, hosting a webinar or starting a podcast.

The key is to simply make a note of these new opportunities so that you can explore them when the schedule opens up. Each of these opportunities will require some research, some trial and error - and so you need to wait until the schedule allows you to try something new. This means that all your current tools need to be settled in and scheduled well ahead, so that you can buy the time to try new things.

Personally I have a few files, each containing dozens of pages where I have listed resources and opportunities to take a look at when my schedule allows it.

Having multiple tools in the business toolbox is very useful for expanding Market Authority, networking, communications and promotional activities and taking these to the next level. At the same time - just because there are hundreds of tools available doesn't mean we have to rush out and try them all now.

Work with what you have first and start bringing in new tools gradually as you experiment to find what works for you.
