Fewer Should's

Focusing on Fewer Should's

As most of our loyal readers are aware, I have written a series of articles offering tips for getting out of a negative mindset.

I personally struggle with depression and easily slide into darknessā€¦ I work hard to reach for the light, the positive, celebrating little things and being grateful. I keep checking my speech and thought patterns, saying to myself "oops I didn't mean that, I meant..." and I consciously correct the mistake.

In communications I aim to express my appreciation for their time, concern, attention. If something stands out at that moment, I'll mention how much I liked that thing - to let them know.

I will consciously seek for positive activities, posts, events and other happenings. I try to celebrate their efforts whenever I can. When you start looking, it really is amazing how many things are happening across the globe every day that make the world a better place.

Recently I found myself sliding into a negative space after a series of challenges, frustrations. To top everything off I found myself in the slew of learning new programs, and my impatience with challenges was wearing.
I am fully aware that much of this is attitude, and perception. Pivoting mindset is not as easy as it sounds however...

When I'm heading for darkness the biggest clue is that I focus on what is not working and the long list of to-doā€™s and then I start beating myself up about all the little things I need to do.

It can sometimes feel overwhelming to be an entrepreneur, to be a writer, and it is easy to belittle ourselves.

But to be honest, hitting ALL the ā€œshouldā€™sā€ is just not possible.

As such, I'm sharing 4 statements to memorize so that be repeated in our minds whenever we need to pivot our mindset:

ā€¢ I will focus on resetting the mindset to accept that these are the things I can mange today.

ā€¢ I compare myself only to where I was yesterday, or who I was yesterday ā€“ so that I can celebrate every single thing that led to forward movement.

ā€¢ I will accept that I cannot operate at 100% capacity every moment of every single day.

ā€¢ I will remind myself to hit the refresh button by taking a stroll with the dogs, have a coffee with my husband, play with the dogs, or read another authorā€™s published books.
