Poetry

-- Quote of the Day --

“You can do what you want to do, accomplish what you want to accomplish, attain any reasonable objective you may have in mind – not all of a sudden, perhaps not in one swift and sweeping act of achievement but you can do it gradually day by day and play by play, if you want to do it, if you work to do it, over a sufficiently long period of time.”

 ~ William Holler

  -- Poetry --

It has been a while since I have shared some of my published poetry... here is some samples taken from my 1st book of poetry: Towards Understanding

IN OUR MIDST

How can we justify this life?
With every breath that we take
Can we influence this hard world
Is there power in the hands
Of This boy or this girl

There are heroes in our midst
And you know that they exist
They exist in you and I
We are the heroes in our midst

How can we waste away this life?
When every breath is a gift
A chance to choose whatever fits
To make some wrong right
Or ease somebody’s plight

How can we whine about this life?
When those who passed before had
Passed through rougher roads and more
And when looked at in this light,
The roads we travel are golden ever-more

There are heroes in our midst
And you know that they exist
They exist in you and I
We are the heroes in our midst

How can claim we’re conscious?
When each breath releases anger
Or some rotting hate within
And are we making changes
For the world we’re living in?

LIVING DISEASE

There’s too many children
Walking the dirty streets
Too many children
With this living disease

Where are the heroes?
They’ve succumbed to cement.
Where are the parents?
They’re trying to pay the rent.

When TV’s baby-sit
And Computers consume the rest
Glued to cells and berries and pods
And one more list to do.

This use of knowledge
Is dumbing down our world.
A lack of life skills
Leaves minds in a whirl.

Compliance to violence
Shaking hands admit defeat
Why don’t we stand up
To this living disease?
