-- Product Review --
Most North Americans are not getting enough of the good fats
(omega 3, 6, 9, etc) and it is wise to take a supplement of these nutrients
when you can. Omega’s are essential to a number of bodily functions including:
healthy heart, circulation, cholesterol levels, reduces inflammation, improves
immune system, reduces stress, aides emotional imbalance, hormone balance, fertility, headaches/migraines, weight management, brain and joint
support, healthy skin, etc.
We began discussing the opportunity to review a single
bottle of Omega 3 Supreme manufactured by Life & Food back around July 23rd
and the product arrived August 5th in our mail box in an
appropriately sized white bubble plastic envelope. The product was housed in a
paperboard box that was printed on all sides with helpful information about the
product.
Each bottle contains 180 soft-gel capsules offering an impressive 1,400 mg
fish oil – 75% omega-e’s (644 mg DHA & 336 mg. EPa). The instructions are
to take 2 pills per day with a meal – each serving (2 pills) is about 14
calories and has 1% protein. The capsules are enteric coated for maximum
absorption and reduced burps or aftertaste. The company claims to have a higher
pharmaceutical grade of concentrated Omega 3’s than their competitors on the
market.
Ingredients are: fish oil, gelatin, glycerine, food glaze,
water and the enteric coating.
The product contains no GMO, gluten, egg, additives, filler,
binder, artificial ingredients, soy, milk, peanut, shellfish, stearate,
sulfate, dioxide or laurate.
The highly concentrated pharmaceutical grade, sustainably harvested wild Alaskan caught
Pollock fish oil is refined and
tested for toxins and impurities and manufactured in the USA under FDA, GMP, MSC and NSF
certification. The molecularly distilled capsules ensure that you are getting
the lowest peroxide and p-anisdine levels on the market.
The design of the soft-gel capsules was, for me, not as easy
to swallow as the company reported them to be. While smaller than most omega
supplements they are quite round – as opposed to tapered, and that caused them
to stick in my throat.
Life & Food (based
in Silver Springs, NV – USA) offers many different supplement products from
green tea, borage oil, colon cleanse and green coffee to garcinai cambogia and
more. According to their site: “Life &
Food is dedicated to
deliver the highest quality supplements, health and food products to provide a
clean and healthy lifestyle. We strive to make a difference in people's health.
We understand not every product will be effective for everyone, but we
guarantee our products are of the purest grade and best quality available. In
addition to our own branded Life & Food supplements, we also carry products
from partner brands such as Life Extensions, and MaritzMayer Laboratories.”
The website goes on to explain that the
company offers a 100% guarantee; their products are manufactured in the US in a
GMP certified facility (good manufacturing practice). Their natural products
are put through a rigorous testing process prior to being released for sale. Unfortunately
beyond this promotional information their site does not tell us anything about their social or environmental
responsibility, charitable actions, volunteer policies and activities, in-house
purchasing or "green" policies. Their site had a live chat that said
it was active, but I didn’t get a response to my questions on those points I
just mentioned. On a positive note however, they do offer a fairly active
educational blog on their site.
You can purchase directly from their
site or go to Amazon.com where it had a retail list price of $59.99 (US) but it
is (as of the writing of this review) on sale for $26.97 (US). Or visit
Amazon.ca (for Canadians) where it has a list price of $34.47 (CDN).
