Pondering Thoughts

Pondering Thoughts

Whenever I get to a stressed level in my life - you know, when you have a permanent frown inside even though you may appear alright to the world... Well, when that happens, I find myself recalling some of the best advice gleaned from a lifetime of encounters with people who knew better than I (which is a lot - ha ha) and I wanted to share some of those bits of advice in this mini-series of posts I'm releasing every 10 or 11 days or so titled: Pondering Thoughts.

So the first was "Start How You Mean To Continue", followed by "Doing It Right The First Time" and then a small piece about "Patience With The Process", followed by "Listen To Others"

...and today (possibly the last article in this mini-series) we'll look at:

"You don't have a right to the cards you believe you should have been dealt with. You have an obligation to play the heck out of the ones you're holding. ...Feel the fear and do it anyway."

While this last piece of advice might seem harsh... deep down I think you know it is true. ...and we are not talking about personal financial gain or some rise-in-your career type of advice here... this is everyday life.

Far too often people often use the drama in their lives as an excuse for not doing something, for not trying, for not doing their best.

They didn't have a father, they didn't have a mother, they lost a sibling, they experienced abuse, they lost a job, they had trouble finding a job, their marriage failed, their bodies started to fail them.

We could look at extremes in life and say, well, yes, but THIS situation is just awful.

...of course it is.

But there is another wave of life out there beyond this one moment that caused them pain. They need to take that hook out of the wound, the one that anchors them in that place, dig it out and venture into the beyond. Whatever the "beyond" means to them at that moment in their lives. Venture out into it. They set their expectations so very high that "failing" is a negative thing. What they really do is fail to view things in a different light.

Feel the fear and do it anyway. Life is about the adventure... the experiences you recall and those you've shared with others.

Each and every one of us continually battles that in our selves. We all do. Some have huge mountains of weight they are carrying and they show us what can be done by will power alone. You all have examples that come to mind. Steven Hawkings, for one. He influenced the world, yet was only able to move and talk and who knows what through the aide of machines and medical services. Stevie Wonder - blind and a person of colour... growing up and coming of age in the music industry at a time of blatant racism. Of course these two examples are of people who had exceptional skills and probably luck in getting noticed and revered for their work. However, people like these do show us that we have the power in our life to contribute, to make a difference, to do something positive every single day.

Try to find a way to flow around whatever obstacle you are seeing in your life. You lost your voice and can't host a radio show - but you can run a blog. There is always an option, but we may have to look at the situation in a totally different way. Sometimes, finding the view - the ability to look at a situation from a different way - well, it can take time. Perhaps you have to experience a few things before you can come back and have that "ah-ha" moment.
