Created A Comfortable, Productive Workspace

How I Created A Comfortable, Productive Workspace

*Today's article was written by Elise Smith; she is a regular guest on this blog, with her articles published near the end of each month. Elise writes under the pen name: Sheila. "I", she explains. "My passion is creative writing. I’ve been writing for 24 years in fiction and poetry. I have written and published two autobiographies in my book series "The New Zealand Dream,” by Sheila, my pen name. In between projects, I do freelance writing, content, and article and coaching." At My NZ Dream I can work from home always, not just during a pandemic.

Unlike the fancy home offices I have seen, I can be found on the couch with my laptop most of the time.
I travel so my home office setup needs to be as compact as possible which usually means just having my laptop and charger so I can always be ready to go.

Items I use for creating a comfortable and productive workspace:

Items List

  • A laptop or chrome book

  • A second screen

  • A standing desk

  • Headphones

  • Good Wi Fi

  • Natural lighting

  • A personal touch

When I am at home I alternate between the couch and the spare room. My spare room is set up with a adjustable desk I can stand or sit at and an adjustable ergonomic office chair.

As much as I love to travel there is nothing like the warm feeling of being home.  It is nice to prepare my own coffee with my own coffee maker and watch the dog sleep all day while I am busy working and I can work in my pajamas!

Sharing a home and office with a partner can be challenging, but for us it is a dream come true.
I start work when my husband has left for work, about 8.30am and finish around the time he arrives home, 4pm.  I do not work in the weekends, unless I have a stall or market to do. That is time I spend with my husband and family.

We like to bring the outdoors inside and be surrounded by natural lighting and plants as our personal touch.

In the spare room office space I like to have my vision board up where I can see this daily and be reminded of my goals.

To create the best office set up for you, you need to think of your personal needs.  What do you need to be most productive and happy at home. Try to find solutions based on those needs.
