Two personality traits that all entrepreneurs need to have is a sense of self-discipline and the ability to be tenacious. Too much, like anything, can of course lead to problems and sometimes it can be difficult to decide if the actions you plan to take will come across in an abrasive way.
For example:
A period of time has passed since you sent that query out and you have not received a reply - and now your mind is reeling with wondering thoughts like:
• Did it arrive?
• Perhaps your message got lost in a spam or junk folder.
• Maybe they have had too many messages and haven't had a chance to respond.
• It could be they saw it and meant to reply, but then forgot about it.
The next question that will pop us is whether you should reach out yet.
The answer is: "Yes, it is ok to be tenacious - but do so respectfully".
Be sure to check the list below before reaching out:
• Scan email and message centres, texts and chats for any communications from them. Just because the original communication was on Facebook messenger does not mean they aren't going to reach out via cell phone text messaging the next time.
• Pay special attention to the trash folder, friend requests, as well as any junk or spam folders.
• Allow 2-3 months for them to respond.
• Make sure their website is still active by looking for recent activity.
At this point it is perfectly fine to send a brief message stating that you are just checking in to see if they had a chance to peruse your message. Be sure to include the previous message below the email signature, or refer to the date it was sent, so they can refer to it easily.
Alternatively, send a differently worded query that refers to recent posts or interviews on their site and how these affected you. Perhaps an interview helped you improve your business skills. Maybe they published a few articles on a particular subject, and you feel you have something to offer that can expand on it.
You can mention in the query that you have reached out once before, and are still hoping to work with them. The feeling you want them to get from you is that you are organized, thoughtful and respectful.
