Recommended resources

The  Recommended Resources  series has been published on this blog since we transferred it from the  Brummet's Muse  biweekly newsletter that ran for 6 years or so. When we closed it down, we decided that sharing resources was just too awesome not to continue. With this series, Dave and I have the pleasure of sharing some great resources which can include - positive impact organizations and events, citizen science projects and links to helpful articles.  Feel free to check out their websites, and perhaps send them a note of appreciation for what they do. It would, of course, be fantastic if you see a way to network with them or get involved some how, or possibly share their information with your networks. perception and circle of influence

I'm going to share a couple stories that will bring some attention on two things today: perception and circle of influence First, I want you to close your eyes, take a deep breath and picture this in your mind: Shirley is on her knees weeding or tending a garden bed in one corner of the garden. Shirley's view is the intricate detail of the plants, birds, bees, and sounds around her such as the wind passing through the plants surrounding her, the texture of the grass as it digs into her knees, the faint scents drifting across the gardens, the dust from cars driving a bit to fast on the road.  This is what Shirley is currently aware of, but she finds herself a bit distracted because of the harsh words she said to her husband that morning. Janice, her neighbor, is on the 2nd story balcony - she has a totally different view of Shirley's yard - in fact she can see almost the entire yard from above the canopy level. She sees the tops of the garden beds, the sunlight stream throug

Answering Your Questions

Answering Your Q's is a playlist that we created on the Brummet Media Channel (YouTube) that really grew in popularity. Feel free to submit your questions too :) I met Pat thru an online writer's group we are both a part of, and she submits this question: " How long had the idea of your cookbook been developing before you began to write the manuscript ?" This question had me really probing the memory to the very beginnings - collecting the recipes into one file, and after years of refining, testing, etc. ...finally a finished manuscript was created and we decided to release it to the public as a cookbook. Join us as we share that journey in this 13 min. video: https://youtu.be/UEnUMeUW69U ~~~ Find the Brummet's Books @: https://www.amazon.com/stores/author/B0845RLK1X Find Them Online via: https://taplink.cc/brummet https://linktr.ee/LillianBrummet ~~~

Fundraising event, celebrating local heroes

Demetre Karountzos has done so much for this region for decades... & we are happy to donate  4 books for his fundraising event. From One Small Garden (cookbook), Rhythm & Rhyme (poetry) & the Trash Talk series (Books 1 & 2) - signed and with bookmarks inserted. :)  Did you know that Dave Brummet is the nephew of Tony Brummet, former environment minister. Cool, eh?  The Trash Talk series (part of this donation ) was inspired by a column we ran for about 6 years or so... because of this we earned acknowledgements & awards from many environmental organizations. We also got a recycled-glass award from the Recycling Council of BC , and a special letter from the premier of BC for being community heroes.  We certainly don't feel like heroes but it was really nice to get those awards.   There are heroes everywhere among us, once we start looking - and celebrating them  - ... all of a sudden we see them everywhere. It is kind of like getting a car, and then all of

Just For Writers

This monthly series began just over 2 years ago offering advice, tips, resources and marketing opportunities for our friends in the world of writing. Look for archived (or watch for new) posts around the middle of each month. -- Resources --  There are strong emotions to manage when we are self-employed. One of the triggers is having to prioritize what gets done, who gets your time, what you have to let go despite an emotional attachment to it & what you can set aside, for now.  Find out more in this 8.5 min video: https://youtu.be/novx5_9Dvtg  == Entrepreneurs often struggle with the act of prioritizing. It can be an emotional experience - setting aside something you are involved in or keyed up about, only to take on something new because it has taken precedence. Deadlines, opportunities, schedule delays all play a role in this difficult aspect of running a #business.  Drop in this 8 min video: https://youtu.be/xb6NM2oWbuo Visit Amazon to find this, and other books, by the Brummet

Great Tips For Writing Reviews

This next question was submitted without a name attached, & I'm super grateful as it sparked an idea for a series of videos that we now plan on creating on this topic.  " You mention working as both a book and product #reviewer for a few publications and organizations; I know you used to do product #reviews on your blogs too... Do you still offer that service? ... &... Can you give us some tips on writing reviews. concentric square labyrinth pattern

One fine Sunday morning Dave and I began to get curious about a particular design - a concentric square labyrinth pattern  - that seemed to be appearing around us. There are several variations of the design and the more we looked for it, the more we saw it around the home and yard.  So the two of us began searching online for all the reliable sources on the meaning of this specific symbol.  The concentric square labyrinth pattern, which is known as the Greek Key symbol today, has been used for centuries by many ancient cultures including the Asian, Aztec, Byzantine, Etruscan, Greek, Native American, and Roman peoples to decorate buildings, art, jewelry and clothing.  When the design appears as a straight line of interconnected Greek Keys, it known as a Meander (after an ancient river in what is now known as Turkey).  Meanders symbolized protection and health, and the unbroken path to infinity and reproduction - and therefore it was commonly used as a building motif. It seems many anc
