The Weight of the World Today’s youth seem to be going through a lot of conflicting emotions. With the influence of the media, they feel angry and want to blame others. In dark emotional moments they feel a sense of hopelessness, like nothing they do could matter. At the same time, today's energetic youth are more active, inspired, educated and hopeful than any other generation. Yet there is the real danger of becoming so busy with too many opportunities that they risk burnout.  People of all ages seem to be feeling the weight of the world... and I want to address this issue today. -- The Power of Kindness -- * by Bruce Star Sometimes you learn the simplest, most powerful lessons of kindness under the most ritual and mundane circumstances. For instance, five days a week, I get up, or I am awakened by my daughter Kenia, to get her ready to go off to school. This morning I asked her as usual what she wanted for breakfast. I would ask if she wanted cereal or oatmeal? She would say... either... oatmeal... or cereal. Her response left me cold. It took a few days for me to realize that the correct and kind response was to say, "I will have cereal dad, thanks!" Or, "I will have oatmeal dad, thanks!" When I asked her to please respond that way, she said she would and did so from that point forward. It wasn't that I was being mean or overly demanding of her.  -- Online Piano Lessons -- Intrigued by the concept of online piano lessons, I was thrilled to connect with Angela Hoffman of HoffmanAcademy.com who agreed to have Unit #1 of their piano lessons sent my way as a review project back on Oct 18. I downloaded Unit #1, consisting of lessons 1-20 on Oct 21 st but didn’t have a chance to start delving into it until a week or so later. The download process was very easy to do; it came in a zip folder that landed on my desktop including several files. There are a couple of different types of download choices, by the way, in order to satisfy varying needs with the myriad of devices out there. For me, it was just a simple zip folder as I was using my trusty office computer for this.
