-- Quote of the Day --

I’ve seen the richness of the Amazon forest and the horrifying sight of the bare red earth where it had been torn away… One person may not be able to change things but together we can”

-- May is World Water Awareness Month --

Canada is encouraging citizens to “be a water hero and be part of the solution”. They are suggesting that we consider water efficiency when looking into appliances, humidifiers, toilets, faucets, irrigation systems and recreational pools.

By installing low-flow heads and/or aeration heads on all of the sink, tub and shower heads, we can greatly reduce the consumption of water, because it will be used more efficiently at the tap. Replace washers regularly and if you find that a tap persistently drips regardless of washer replacement efforts – consider replacing the entire tap.

We can also reduce our use of pesticides, fertilizers, chemicals, paints and chemicals or even prescriptions and be conscious of how they are disposed to ensure a healthy ground water system. Drip, soaker hoses and underground irrigation are the best methods to employ on any property – they will reduce your watering consumption by 80%!

Did you know that toilet flushes account for 30% of indoor water consumption? Or that only 3% of the city’s treated water is actually consumed by humans – the rest is flushed down the drain or poured on our gardens, or used to wash cars and homes, etc.
