Contributing and Benefitting Part 1 After moving to the Kootenay Region of BC (Canada) and opening our business here, we knew that while we may not always have the budget to donate or time to volunteer, there were many other ways we could contribute to this amazing community and beautiful valley that we now call home. We soon connected with the Therapeutic Action Program - which helps people with difficulties, and seniors, in a variety of ways. They host an annual silent auction fundraiser that we have been contributing drums, books, products, and gift certificates on a semi-annual basis. That positive experience keeps us involved with community events today. When From One Small Garden - Over 300 Delicious Nutritious Recipes  came out we connected with Creston Valley Food Action Coalition who used our cookbook as a fundraiser at their Farmers Market Info Booth that summer, and purchased a number of copies (at a 25% discount) for several of their classes (4-6 people per class an...

 It is a huge thrill to announce this wonderful program along with these fantastic organizations who work so hard to make the world a better place. Dave and I were invited to play a role in the Growing Fresh project... in that the cooking classes will be using our cookbook! The Creston Valley Food Action Coalition also has a booth at the Farmer's Market and we've arranged to do a draw contest for a copy of our cookbook. After that the booth will use our cookbook as a fundraiser for their many many many projects and wonderful work around this beautiful valley. What a thrill it has been to been to play this small role in their projects. Positive News ...so proud of Creston Valley’s wildlife stewards!! The Creston Valley is the only known habitat for the last population of Northern Leopard Frogs in British Columbia (Canada) - one of the most endangered species of wildlife in the province.  In the fall, the Northern Leopard Frog moves from its breeding and summer grounds to overwintering habitat - and this requires that they safely cross the dikes south of Duck Lake.  The frogs not only cross the dikes to get to the overwintering habitat, but they also use the warm gravelly surfaces near and on the roads and trails to forage around; this makes them extremely vulnerable to being run over by motorized vehicles. The Provincial Northern Leopard Frog Recovery Team (NLFRT) is soliciting Duck Lake users' help to protect and recover this critically endangered species during their fall migration.  The team is calling for a voluntary road closure for motorized vehicles on ...
