sustainable business

-- Quote of the Day --    " Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light. " ~ Steven Kloves -- Positive News --  It is encouraging to see the business community taking notice of the impact they have on the environment and being willing to show concern and take steps to reduce their impact. Of course it is win-win, since today's educated consumer is looking to spend their budget in the most conscious way possible. A new study done on Japanese businesses found that 70% are continually working towards and improving existing efforts on conservation, maternal health, human rights, advancement of women, prevention of environmental contamination and adaption to climate change. The country is now looking at ways to encourage business sector to also take actions against diseases, poverty and other social issues – and to expand their efforts to reaching beyond Japa...

Consumers Drive Change

-- Quote of the Day --  Count the garden by the flowers, never by the leaves that fall. Count your life with smiles and not the tears that roll.  ~Author Unknown -- Positive News --  Toyota came up with a more efficient compact hybrid vehicle (37 KM per Liter), this is said to be the one of the most efficient hybrids out there. Interesting!  My aunt also invested in a hybrid, and I'm seeing more and more of them on the roads. It is inspiring to see the changes we have seen in our lifetime... and hope to see much greater changes in the next few years. When manufactures see the desire they will build and sell what we want  - as such consumers have a huge impact on the direction of the world's future.  Buy only what you believe in, what you can stand behind, and what leads to the kind of world you want to see.      Find Dave and Lillian Brummet, excerpts from their books, th...

It is a pattern of thinking that constantly seeks to reduce waste by asking questions like these three: When I have used all of the contents in this packaging, what else can be done with the container? In a society with hundreds of brands and products from which to choose, it is completely feasible to make purchase decisions based on packaging. Doing so will accomplish two purposes. First of all, it will help you to reduce the amount of waste your hou...

Plastic Bags and Alternatives

Data taken from the International Bottom Trawl Survey and the Clean Seas Environmental Monitoring Programme by CEFAS indicates that plastic bags makes up around 40% of all the marine litter evaluated at stations across UK waters and the North Sea. In the Bay of Biscay most of the waste items found on the seabed were plastic (92%) and of those 94% were plastic bags (OSPAR, 2009). In this respect over 30 NGOs are making a final call to EU Environment ministers ahead of the July 15 deadline for setting marine litter targets, as required under EU law. -- Conscious Discussions Talk Radio show -- Sign up via itunes for the Conscious Discussions Radio show: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/id262138144      Today's show will focus on Plastic Bags and eco-bag alternatives.   Stefanie Kushner   is joining us today to share how her passion for environmentally friendly bags inspired the crea...

Fire, Ads & Communication

-- Quote of the Day -- “ There is just too much negative news topics compared to positive news topics out there. …When people feel overwhelmed by all these terrible things in the world and thoughts like the future is really grim – they feel like they cannot solve their problems, they can actually start to feel suicidal. It is so important to get the message out there that people do care, that there are lots of people out there who do care what happens on this planet. …Using “reflective” questions – a very non-threatening way to approach a young person. …Reassure them that you are available for support, that there are other resources for them as well. …And using “I” statements… and “open-ended” questions… These techniques will help you communicate with young people .”     Julie-Anne Skyley ~ Aug 1 2010 Today's quote is derived from a Conscious Discussions talk radio show interview that aired back on August 1st titled: Helping Youth Face Stress -- Consci...
