Contributing and Benefiting (Part 2)

Contributing and Benefiting Part 2 Creston is a little city in the heart of the Kootenay Region (of BC Canada) surrounded by a string of small villages, large towns, and several medium sized cities with larger amenities just under 2 hours away. This is a popular area for tourists and being in the centre of this region we get a lot of travellers going from one city to another, back and forth.  The Kootenays plays host to many popular cyclist and motorbike events, large music and literacy festivals and classic car events in the surrounding area. In fact by watching and increasing our awareness we learned that the region tends to have dozens and dozens of events happening every single week - each with its own special focus and audience. Some will be run by non-profits or on behalf of those non-profits. Some will be created in an effort to support a local school, community garden or neighborhood park. Other events will be smaller yet - such a garage sale raising funds to support a fam...

Books for Africa

-- Quote of the Day -- "A catless writer is almost inconceivable. It's a perverse taste, really, since it would be easier to write with a herd of buffalo in the room than even one cat; they make nests in the notes and bite the end of the pen and walk on the typewriter keys."  ~Barbara Holland -- Non-profit Event -- Have you heard of this new program called Books For Africa ?  Our friend in Africa, Stan Almendro, informed us that they have an international fundraising project with various events going on that will help run their non-profit projects that encourage African youth to write and sing and more.   One of the upcoming events will be held here: Books for Africa Sunday, November 30 at 8:00am in UTC+02 Alberton, Gauteng in Alberton, Gauteng  They also have an event going on via Indiegogo - a crowdfunding platform that pools donations together. Something you might be interested in here too is n...

Fundraiser !

I received the following information about a fantastic fundraiser by a writer friend of ours - Karin Fabian. So far, she says, " We have raised $234 (not counting book sales) " Here is some information about the fundraiser, written by Karin:   "We’ve had an upsetting number of forest fires in the West, and Colorado Springs has been especially hard hit, with over 35,000 people evacuating their homes and hundreds of homes destroyed or damaged by the flames.  People have come from all over the nation to assist in fighting the fires, and so many are going to have to rebuild their homes from scratch. I want my story to help them. Coyote Fires is now up in a serial format at http://coyotefires.karinafabian.com .  I have a donation button on the site, and I’m asking that if you enjoy the story, you help me help others by donating a little to the cause.  You can donate as little as $1.  For every $10 I earn (from one to ten donors),...

A Lasting Legacy & Writer's Advice

-- Quote of the Day -- “… It is really easy for folks feel depressed and powerless but the answers are right in front of us in fact they are within us. And we have to recognize that we alone control our responses and our emotions as opposed to what is happening in the world around us around us. And we can take immediate action to change things for the better, we have that power. There are five steps to getting control of our lives… The 1st step is – get a grip. Realize that worry and fear only make things worse. Breath, when we get stressed, our breathing gets shallow…making us mentally confused – and then let it go… recognize that there is something bigger than you and it will work out. …Then think gratitude …there is so much to be grateful and when you can count your blessings the problems around you seem less significant. …The 2nd step is to get real – this is where you alone control your responses, emotions and your destiny… Realize that you can choose to be happy no matter what ...
