Communication tips for businesses

The Changing Language Of Business * Written by Shirley Taylor Decades ago, our ancestors' speaking style matched their writing style. Just as it should. Over the decades, our speaking style has evolved. But what has happened to our writing? Every language evolves to reflect the current times and changing needs. In the early half of the 19th century, business communication was very formal, relationships were formed slowly, resulting in passive voice and over-politeness being the norm. In writing, people embellished their messages with flowery, bombastic words. Lengthy messages were filled with redundancies and verbosity. This was perfectly fine in those days. It was entirely normal for the times we were living in. In those days, the oral communication style matched the written communication style. Today, the language of business communication has changed. We are speaking to our colleagues, clients and stakeholders in a very warm, friendly, natural, relaxed, pe...

I'll publish the second half on August 9th .  Can You Hear Me Now? 6 Ways to Listen to Clients The primary purpose of any business is to make money. In fact, the definition of business is "exchanging goods or services for money." In most cases, revenue depends on customers or clients. The foundation for your successful enduring business is a long-term two-way relationship with your clients.  To foster this crucial relationship, you need to do only 2 things: (1) Listen for your clients' problem. What is their biggest need, pain or challenge that relates to your work? (2) Solve their problem. Respond to their need and help them do, be, get or keep it. Whether you attune to your cli...

World of Writing, interview

-- Quote of the Day --  --> “ We are changing the English language and going in the wrong direction because people who are misstating the language are on television and radio and they are saying words incorrectly and that is being spread all over the country. …When you speak you have to speak clearly and slowly – if you get to the point that you feel like you are speaking too slowly, you are probably speaking correctly. …It is really important how you communicate with people, that you move your mouth, your jaw and you take the time to articulate. ” ~ Bill Pattie --> Today’s quote originates from the Conscious Discussions Talk Radio episode that aired back on August 8 '12 titled: Communication Skills ForThe 21st Century  (*Click on the title to access the full discussion) -- World of Writing, Interview -- It is time for another World of Writing interview and today I'm happy to introduce Joseph Spencer -...
