review for our green-living book series

Trash Talk - a green-living book series We love hearing feedback from our happy readers ! Find the Series:  (US) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09YC64SB7 (Canada) https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B09YC64SB7   “  I came across Trash Talk - Book#1: It’s Easy To Be Green and was immediately impressed by how approachable and empowering the book is. Your central idea that trash is not just waste, but a valuable resource reframes sustainability in a way that feels practical, hopeful, and achievable for everyday readers. What truly stands out is how actionable the content is. The A–Z list of commonly discarded items and the creative ways to repurpose them makes it easy for readers to start making changes right away. Rather than focusing on guilt or extremes, you emphasize conscious choices, saving money, and measurable impact showing that even small efforts can make a meaningful difference over time. Trash Talk goes beyond simple recycling by encouraging readers to rethink h...

More R's

The many many many many R's Many of you are fully aware that Dave & I are enthusiastic influencers for creating positive change starting right where you are - with what you can do today.  We've written more than a thousand articles, done hundreds of interviews & written a book series on the topic. Over the decades we've  focused on the first 3 R's: R ecycling & R epurpose or R ot (compost). While these are highly effective techniques of turning waste into a resource, there are a lot more than 3 R's in living a positive, proactive lifestyle.  R econsider how powerful the individual consumer is:  - R efuse to accept manufacturer standards, products or companies that do not  align with your beliefs. - R each out to companies to let them know what you like or do not like about their policies. Celebrating positive efforts is much more effective, however, than complaining. - With R euse in the consumer mindset, & ways of extending the life of the prod...

Fundraising event, celebrating local heroes

Demetre Karountzos has done so much for this region for decades... & we are happy to donate  4 books for his fundraising event. From One Small Garden (cookbook), Rhythm & Rhyme (poetry) & the Trash Talk series (Books 1 & 2) - signed and with bookmarks inserted. :)  Did you know that Dave Brummet is the nephew of Tony Brummet, former environment minister. Cool, eh?  The Trash Talk series (part of this donation ) was inspired by a column we ran for about 6 years or so... because of this we earned acknowledgements & awards from many environmental organizations. We also got a recycled-glass award from the Recycling Council of BC , and a special letter from the premier of BC for being community heroes.  We certainly don't feel like heroes but it was really nice to get those awards.   There are heroes everywhere among us, once we start looking - and celebrating them  - ... all of a sudden we see them everywhere. It is kind of like g...

What Inspired Sustainable Living 4 U ?

*  Today's article was submitted by author and business owner  Trent A. Romer . Trent has worked hard to shift his plastic bag manufacturing company  Clear View Bag Co ., Inc ( www.clearviewbag.com ) toward a more sustainable direction through a new vision of  Healthy Planet, Healthy People, Healthy Company .  His book  Finding Sustainability  details his journey to ultimately find sustainability in multiple places.  Visit  www.trentromer.com  for pictures and details about the book.   What’s your moment to push you toward sustainability? We had just finished a 20 mile bike ride through the Berkshire countryside.  It was a clear and cool spring day in 2018. A light jacket made our ride more comfortable even in the bright sun especially as we sped down hill. Rolling hills, small towns and open country roads made for the perfect getaway weekend for my wife and I.  We stayed in an historic hotel outside of Lenox MA. Our ...

Having these green spaces to work in actually improve gardening, biological, water and geological related science classes as well as providing food for the cafeteria and a comforting place to lounge while on campus.  Campus Race to Zero Waste focuses on challenging all campus visitors to think about waste in a new way, to encourage recycling and sustainable living, and more.   Alabama Wildlife Federation - has been working for wildlife since 1935 and offers a great classroom page for hands-on projects.  ~~   Visit the Brummet's @:  http://BrummetMedia.ca ~~

America Recycles Day

Recycling November 15th is officially America Recycles Day - set aside by the US Environmental Protection Agency who recognized the importance of recycling to the economy and to the environment in 2018 via this special day. In the beginning of the US recycling/returnable programs in the early 60's they achieved only 7% return rate... but today as of this year they have seen an increase to 35%. Now while the growth rate is something to celebrate, 35% leaves a long way to go if we want to create a sustainable world. As such this day is used to provide incentive for community-driven awareness events that promote and celebrate recycling. http://brummetmedia.ca/store.html Interestingly our Trash Talk 2-book series offers a lot of insight as to how the recycling process works for virtually every item you might find in the office or home waste bin. The series also offers ways to reduce consumption through repurposing or reusing items that would have formally considered waste...

Why Recycling E-waste Is So Important

The Real Cost of Technology and  Why You Should Recycle Responsibly  * Submitted by Zack Gallinger of  Revolution  (a company within the Shift portfolio)- a recycler based in  Toronto  and  Ottawa  that specializes in safe and environmentally-friendly disposal of old electronics, secure data destruction and IT asset disposition services. Check out the hyperlinks throughout the article, taking you to several articles on the issues presented here; also be sure to view the resources at the end of this post.  Before you buy your next electronic gadget, here’s something to think about that goes beyond the features on your wish list or where you’ll find that gadget for the lowest price. Does the amount you will pay accurately reflect the true cost of that item? If you’re like most people, you’d likely conclude that it does. Here’s why you’d be wrong. Direct and Indirect Costs Setting a price for any product can take into considera...

Thoughts on Global Citizenship

-- Thoughts on Global Citizenship --  I’ve been chatting quite a bit about different ways of proactively participating as a global citizen. Let me dig a little deeper here offering you a few stats and a discussion on some things we can consider doing about it. For instance: Did you know that about 410,000 plastic cups are produced as waste by the airline industry every 15 minutes? Something to think about. How many of us have used cell phones, cords, out of date electronics and kitchen appliances we no longer use laying around? According to lecture I was listening to earlier this year, 152 million cell phones are thrown out every year and only 11% of these are recycled.   Some of the remaining may have been donated somewhere. Most are sitting in junk drawers and the like. Now don’t be disheartened by the information here – Knowing this information is very empowering for inventors, designers, scientists and proactive citizens. There are numerous org...
