Time & Patience; Organics in the Landfill

-- Quote of the Day -- “ Time and patience are the greatest healers .” ~ author unknown -- Positive Eco-News -- From the Zero Waste San Diego Group: A new bill has passed that will enable cities to divert as much as 67 percent of their landfill mass through keeping organics in a composting system instead. Much of the organics being put into the system will come from hotels, restaurants, grocery stores and cafes. Other large contributors are everyday kitchen and yard waste from the residential contributions and city landscaping industry. The government is enforcing this through fines for municipalities that do not comply to the new regulations. In the short term there will need to be some investment into new waste management technology but in the long term the benefits are more than obvious and will also apply to the city’s budget improvements through the improved systems. -- Quote of the Day -- “ …I am always referencing back to the gardening experiences with my father when I was very little… It was phenomenal to me that you could take this little tiny seed and there was already this momentum …and it would begin to germinate and to grow. And this is truly how we function in life. We plant a seed – the seed is a thought, an idea that we sow, or put into action. …The earth is very healing, the more we have our hands in the earth, our bare feet in the ground, …this not only helps to cleanse our energy but also to listen to the one true voice so we begin to process the things that we do… and begin to just listen. You know, it is a meditative process. …When we would plant carrot seeds we couldn’t see what is going on beneath the ground, and you would just have to know the maturity date and pull them out of the ground. …And I was thinking how frequently something is going on underneath the surface …and yet is it something that we deliberately planted? Are we ...

As the oven uses the most energy and creates a vast amount of heat while cooking foods, it is a good place to start. For instance, when baking cookies use two trays. While one is in the oven baking, the other one is prepped with raw cookies – ready to replace the tray in the oven with no wasted heat and some time saved. When we bake...

Conscious Living Tips & Chatter :)

-- Chatter -- Well, I do feel a bit burned out in the brain so I think today I will start off with some yoga, walk the dogs and finish turning one of the 3 compost bins that we have... leaving the office work for the heat of the day and the evening. As many of you are aware, the release period of any book project is a huge endeavor. No matter how much planning goes into the release, there are always moments of scrambling and panic over technical glitches - which could be anything, really, from an image that isn't working to a link that goes nowhere...until things get ironed out over the first few days of a release. Pre-release announcements, press release production and direct contact mailings have been the focus of our office for the last 4 days or so. And at the moment I'm approaching burn out, lol. So I'll take a few hours to get some other things done, and be back in the office clattering away on the keyboard this afternoon. ...If you want to check out the new release ...
