Traveling & Living Consciously, Every Day

-- Quote of the Day -- “ I just have a personal belief in traveling in a way that contributes to the destination, is respectful of the culture and the local communities; rather than the commercial traveling services, …large tourism companies (hotels, tourism companies, agents, etc) that are often owned out of country – that kind of travel takes can actually take away from the place you are traveling in terms of local dollars and local culture. It is kind of like sightseeing in a way that is a little bit removed and you are traveling in such a way that you are not really experiencing the culture. Being conscious of the impact of the tours we are choosing, that kind of thing. …I like to write about organizations and travel. …The Miracle Foundation ( www.miraclefoundation.org ) is always looking for sponsors for children, and every sponsor they get for a child in their orphanages means they can bring another child in. … One.org … and the Globalmarch.org are really great organizations. …...

Events happening over the next few days...

-- Quote of the Day -- It’s almost impossible to keep a secret because, as you know, to “air is human”. ~ Unknown -- Conscious Events -- August is Dental Awareness Month - did you know that dental health is linked to both breast cancer and heart problems? Have regular check ups, brush after every meal and floss once a day - try using natural toothpastes without the fluoride, artificial flavors and chemicals. Look for natural toothpastes that feature tea tree oil (Melaleuca Alternafolia), oregano, myrrh, cinnamon or clove oils... all known for their healing and anti-bacteria properties. Also look for a floss that has a similar oil content. Don't forget to brush your tongue once per day. And a swish out in between with a mouth rinse - natural, of course - would be appropriate as well. 1st Monday (Aug 3rd) – Civic Holiday : A national holiday in Canada that often provids the work force with a paid day off :) Aug 2nd-5th – Annual CRRA Conference (re: zero waste) Rancho Mirage, Cali...

conscious use of trails

-- Chatter -- Today, Dave & I went up to one of our favorite surrounding mountains to walk along a shady trail we found near one very small man-made lake. While there we stumbled upon some of the most beautiful trail scenes that we have witnessed in some time. Tall green, wispy grass with straight and strong stems of daisy flowers everywhere. Surrounding this is a mixed evergreen forest with a few deciduous as well. It was so lush and shady we hardly noticed the heat. Unfortunately I was driven nearly insane by a few very persistent horseflies - which I happen to have a hate on for. You see, certain insects actually make me ill, and fly bites are one of them. So here I am flailing with my arms, alternating with sprays of water from my bottle (reuseable of course)... great fun. And it was very hot - but here we found this amazing shady, lush spot - so random, so beautiful... it was really a memory making moment. Dave has been training the dogs to go for a pee while traveling without...

" ~ Shantideva, The Way of the Bodhisattva -- Brummet's Fund-raising Efforts -- Lillian and Dave Brummet are known for their volunteer work with school theater productions, art presentations, fund-raising events, participation in green initiatives and donations of thousands of books over the past 10 years to the following organizations: Grand Forks and West Boundary Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy - Women's Resource Center - Whispers of Hope Org . - Grand Forks Public Library - Community Futures Resource Center .
