Green Condos & Bear Awareness

-- Quote of the Day -- “You have to trust yourself,  Be what you are and do what you ought to do  The way you should do it.  You have got to discover you,  What you do,  And trust it”. ~ Barbara Streisand -- Tips for August Outdoor Safety -- Bears, especially Black Bears, are now getting ready for winter, putting on lots of fat for the long weeks of hibernation ahead of them. So make a lot of noise when you are on the trails, especially those near water-ways - where there are bound to be berry patches, and other things that bears are looking for right now.  Clapping your hands every 8 min or so is a good idea, always having a person with you, and talking regularly are things that will let the bears know you are around. Keep in mind that rushing water, heavy winds and canyon like conditions can greatly influence how far sound will travel.... and you definitely want the bear to hear you coming.  Carry a sport whistle with you...

Resources, Grief, Money

-- Article on Grief & Loss -- At the request of Margie Baxley, publicist for Phyllis Schieber, I was invited to write an advice article for Phyllis's blog re: aging and dying parents. In this piece I discuss things like how to take care of yourself, while addressing the closure one needs before and after someone passes.  I'd like to invite you to check out my article at: http://phyllisschieber.wordpress.com/2010/08/05/lillian_brummet  -- Conscious Discussions Radio -- There are a lot of people out there inventing new green products or services that somehow advance their community to be healthier, happier and  more sustainable… yet despite a great product or service they are unable to make ends meet and sadly, many of them fade away. Another Day in BC...

-- Hazy Day -- It is a hazy day here in our valley... apparently in BC (Canada), which is roughly the size of California, Nevada and Oregon combined, there are over 300 fires going on. Three of which are within a few hours drive from our home city... Kamloops, Litten and I think the Peachland area as well, are all experiencing forest fires and some of this is the cause for the haze here. Luckily we had a couple days of rain in our valley, wetting the mountains thoroughly - hopefully. Sadly, some of the heroes facing the forest management this year have met tragedy. I read yesterday that a water bomber went down and started its own fire, and they had not yet been able to search for survivors due to safety issues. It is so sad - and we want to express our gratitude today here publicly on this blog for the incredible unsung heroes out there who risk life and limb to benefit the planet. They really are amazing, and inspiring.  Interestingly, just recently the city had a parade tha...

Ebooks & Marine Environment

-- Positive Eco-News -- *source: japanfs.org I was reading one of the recent publications put out by the Japan for Sustainability organization and discovered an interesting piece on how recycled metal can help the marine environment. Apparently a company known as Kobe Steel Ltd embarked on a research experiment back in July '09, which involved amending an already existing fish bed with iron and steel slag(a by-product of steel manufacturing). This experiment is proving to be positive so far, however the study will continue until June 2012. At that time they will be able to release more conclusive results on this experiment. It is hoped that this can be one way for us to aide a healthy marine environment. -- Brummet's Chatter -- *Whew*! The Brummet's Muse Newsletter went out yesterday morning... Did you get your copy? I love the quote we chose for this last newsletter, and hope you enjoy all the new news we have to share :) Coming up in just a few weeks, a...

Capable of Becoming More

-- Quote of the Day -- " I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element.  It is my personal approach that creates the climate.  It is my daily mood that makes the weather.  I possess tremendous power to make life miserable or joyous.  I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration; I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal.  In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated, and a person is humanized or dehumanized. If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming. " -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe -- Conscious Discussions Radio -- Today, on Conscious Discussions Radio we learned about Helping Youth Deal with Stress -  this can include anxiety, anger, depression, and traumas such as illness or injury, and abuse or grief. Dr Julie-Anne Sykley was our guest of th...

Radio News...

-- Quote of the Day -- “ I am appalled at the amount of waste in these department stores I’ve seen what they throw out. I understand they cannot re-sell it for many reasons, but they should be donating it to someone who can use it – like Clothes2U.ca – For instance, they might have an open package of something like diapers, or underwear …or one of the items is missing from a package and into the garbage it goes. It just shouldn’t be. …[When stores donate their items to non-profit organizations] it helps them get rid of un-sellable merchandise, cuts down on their waste, gives them a green alternative to landfill [contributions] and provides them with an opportunity to help the less fortunate .” ~ Ernie Janzen (April 15, 2010) Today's quote comes from a Conscious Discussions Talk Radio interview that aired back on April 15th with the founder of the Clothes2U Organization . Check out the archived interview at your convenience by clicking on the hyper-links above, or visit the ...
