basic fundamentals of life

-- Quote of the Day -- " Success is neither magical nor mysterious. Success is the natural consequence  of consistently applying the basic fundamentals ."  ~ Jim Rohn  Today's quote has me thinking of one of the 'basic fundamentals' of life - and that is taking some time to recharge our mental batteries. Decision making and efficiency declines when we are stressed, have low energy due to improper nutrients or rest - and this affects how our work is presented as well. So it really is important to take time for you, and only you - regularly. I'm learning this lesson this year myself and have found it quite difficult to actually use the days I book off for rest. Like most of you there's laundry, and lawns, and many other chores or responsibilities that get in the way of time off from the office. It isn't easy to let the dishes go unwashed or let the berries in the garden go unpicked, but training ourselves to do this is essential. If...

Eco-travel Options

-- Quote of the Day -- “ To change your life, you must change your perception of the world and everything around you. …The experience provides an opportunity to learn and grow from the challenges. At the Same time, the experience is inevitable because you create it in the first place. …The fact is, you cant help but create these experiences. They automatically happen because they represent what you believe to be true .”  ~ Gary Spinell, It Was You All Along -- Eco-Travel Tips -- In these times of economic strife and environmental concerns, it is no wonder that eco-tours, volunteer travel and stay-cations (staying at home during vacation time or within their borders) are becoming more popular. JTB Corp., a leading Japanese travel agency, released results of its survey on environmental awareness while traveling. According to the results, 70 percent of respondents are conscious of eco-friendly activities on their trips. There are dozens of things th...

More than anything else zero waste is a design problem. Environment Accountability

-- Environment Accountability -   Today's article was written by Graeme K. who is here to share his thoughts on carbon projects and technologies: More and more often, a level of awareness of one's self and one's actions is being espoused in contemporary culture. Gone are the days of ignorance regarding humanity's place in Earth's environment. The Industrial Revolution, while delivering homo sapiens into a new era of convenience and efficiency, also delivered them into an era of moral and ethical responsibility. It is now abundantly clear that the effect humans and their vast machinations have on the environment is far from negligible. In order to move forward as a species, it has been deemed prudent and necessary to monitor the amount of pollution going into the environment and atmosphere, in order to ensure the survival of future generations. The Carbon Trust, an organization founded in 2001 by the UK government, seeks to assist businesses in measuri...

Strong Business Relationships

Developing a strong networking system with reliable contacts is the key to any marketing plan – yet one of the most difficult and time consuming tasks that an author will face. While it is true that a contact list can take years to develop, if done correctly you will have a team of individuals across the globe who are hungry for news about you and who volunteer to share information about your work through their circles. How does one go about creating a contact list? First you must decide whom you wish to work with and that requires much thought on key words to use in your searches and feeling out the industry to see where your work fits in. Once you have these initial steps done, you can begin approaching people that have a similar audience. But don’t just start sending query letters in a willy-nilly fashion. Really think about how this particular outlet could help you, who their audience is and how you can provide interesting tools or material for them. This will ge...

Downsizing...

-- Quote of the Day -- “…Where I live, the second smallest county in Florida, but we have something like 3300 people per square mile. …And the traffic shows that – it is a chore to get from point A to point B if you drive, it’s a little easier and a lot more pleasant if you ride your bicycle. …I’m a practical cyclist, I’m not a racer – but I enjoy the mob of bikes I have in the garage. …We looked at absolutely everything in every room – what doesn’t need to be plugged in? …looking for appliances without digital clocks; putting things on power-strips; if I’m not on the computer it is unplugged from the wall… and doing things like this we got our power bill from over a hundred a month to thirty. …We are going to have to downsize on a personal level; you’re not going to be driving everywhere like we are now, you might not want to take the job that is 30 miles from your home; or drive across town for that special coffee you like. …The real question is: what is the no-oil susta...
