Writing

-- Quote of the Day --   " From your parents you learn love and laughter  and how to put one foot in front of the other.  But when books are opened you discover that you have wings " ~ Helen Hays Just write: Putting words on paper can be one of the greatest gifts we leave behind, so write - no matter what. Where-ever you are you know you have those characters, those scenes, those memories and experiences… they are always in your mind and you are mulling it over during every quiet moment in your day. Get it out there. You never know what kind of influence you can have out there on this planet, the difference you could make in someone’s life. One of the most common ways that a person often talks himself or herself out of writing is that “ their work will never be published ”. So what? The words you write today in your memoir, for instance, could have a profound impact on the family, especially after you have passed on. The p...

Preparing Gardens?

-- Quote of the Day --  "When you plant lettuce, if it does not grow well, you don't blame the lettuce. You look for reasons it is not doing well. It may need fertilizer, or more water, or less sun. You never blame the lettuce. Yet if we have problems with our friends of family we blame the other person. But if we know how to take care of them, they will grow well, like the lettuce. Blaming has no positive effect at all, nor does trying to persuade, reason, or use argument. ...if you understand, and show that you understand, you can love and the situation will change." ~ Ven Thich Nhat Hanh -- Garden Tip -- Cardboard works great for weed control in the yard or garden. Lay out the flattened cardboard first making sure to overlap it by at least six inches. If the weeds are very established or if your weeds are more like small shrubs, do a double or even triple layer to ensure nothing grows through. We found that it is best to wet the ca...

business advantages

-- Quote of the Day -- "Extinction does not only apply  to giant pandas or tigers or exotic species that dwell in the rain forests.  Vegetables can go extinct too and when our food goes extinct then we follow." ~ The Henry Double Day Research Association, England -- The Advantages of a Virtual Office for Your Small Business -- * Today's article came to us through Sachin from www.webprofits.com.au who thought our readers might want to learn more about the benefits of a home based business.  Are you a small business operator and your business is growing? Are you afraid of all of the costs that you will incur? Sometimes when we grow from a simple start-up sole trader we hit a point where we can no longer handle it on our own, but we don't want all the hassles that come with hiring staff and setting up an office when an answering service will just do any more. How much business are you losing, or how much of your time is being ...

Too many of the young have forgotten how to laugh, and too many of the elders have forgotten how to love. Would not our lives be lightened if only we could all learn to laugh more easily at ourselves and love one-another?" ~  Theodore Hesburgh  -- Conscious Discussions Talk Radio --  Cathy Rosenbaum joins us today, sharing her thoughts on how people can be more proactive about their health and the importance of prevention. Long-lasting Relationships

-- What's the secret to a long lasting relationship? -- Dave's 47th birthday has arrived and I wanted to celebrate his life by sharing some of the lessons I've learned about relationships through being with him all these years. It can surprise me sometimes when I realize that Dave and I have been together for nearly 22 years (as of April 25) and are still going strong, despite many life obstacles from physical injuries to work-related or financially-related stress and traumatic grief.  Many people are impressed by the number of years we've been together, but more are impressed by the fact that Dave and I also work together. All this time we've shared one office, one vehicle and up until this last year - we shared one computer. Being writers and working different schedules, this often felt like we were performing a juggling act.  There are several secrets that I learned from my mother's mishaps in relationships. She used to remind us to ...
