I’ve seen an interesting service in our city that uses a new technology for recycled tires – replacing the need for asphalt driveways and parking areas. They use a recycled tire cover instead that can go over old asphalt, gravel or concrete and it looks fantastic. We’re considering it for our own driveway and parking spot for a future project.  You can see recycled tire products as ...

Children, safety & health

-- Quote of the Day --  “ What worked for me is to have a date night where we could get away with each of the children where I participated in an activity that they enjoyed – allowing them to have that quality time where you can focus on one another. …We have to do a lot of education on our part – because when we see a person with a disability we overcompensate or we feel so overwhelmed that we don’t know how to respond to them. So help people become educated about what they can and cannot do. … …Everybody has a talent – tap into that talent and give them the opportunities and the tools to help them become successful. …If you are out there dealing with children with special needs remember that they are capable of wonderful success – don’t look at them for what they cannot do; look at what they can do. Nurture that and help them develop that into a skill .” ~ Victoria Marin Today’s quote originates from the Conscious Discussions Talk Radio episod...

Great things to offer - & - Contest

-- Quote of the Day -- “ We all have great things to offer and just because we have something different to offer doesn’t mean that there is something wrong with either one of us. …The assessment system that I use is DISC. The letter ‘D’ represents the ‘dominate’ type: and these are people that are outgoing, they are interested in getting things done, they are task oriented, they are bottom line communicators; so they get more done than any other personality type. They are great multi-taskers, they are go-getters, dogmatic, diligent and dynamic. They’re basic needs… are that they want choices, challenge and control. …The ‘I’ stands for ‘inspiring’ who are also outgoing, but they instead of being task oriented they are people oriented. They love to be the life of the party, they are optimistic, are good at motivating and persuading. Their needs are approval and recognition. …The ‘S’ stands for ‘supportive’; they are more reserved, but are interested in people. They a...

Save Money, recycling, biofuel, social networking

-- Energy saving tips --   *Source: Fortis BC Power-sense Newsleltter Set your air conditioner to 25˚ C – and only cool the rooms you are currently using. Close the doors to other rooms that have low traffic use and keep the air moving with fans. Turn fans and air conditioners off when leaving the home for more than 10 min. And don’t run the conditioners at night unless you absolutely have to. Try opening windows and running fans at night instead – besides, it is quieter! Keep blinds and curtains closed on windows that have direct sunlight, and open them only when the sun is hitting another side of the house instead. Clean the air conditioner filter or replace it every 2-6 months depending on how much you use it. Don’t heat your pool at night, let the solar blanket warm it when you can. Use a clothes-line instead of the dryer in the heat of the summer.  Get a free laundry line if you live in BC by visiting fortisbc.com/laundry . Other energy...
