Trembling Touch

-- Quote of the Day --  "The life I touch for good or ill will touch another life, and that in turn another, until who knows where the trembling stops or in what far place my touch will be felt."    ~ Frederick Buechner -- The Power of One Person --  I am so inspired by the quote of the day that I wanted to expound on it just a little. You've heard me chat here on this blog about how one person can make a difference... even small every day actions can have an impact.  For instance when I am online using social media networking sites, I make a conscious effort to avoid posting anything negative. I refuse to comment on negative posts, or posts that point out the harsh realities of life on this planet. Instead - I choose to post as much positive information as I can, along with helpful resources, links to articles or organizations, quotes, and anything that will help push humanity to a more conscious, proactive path. ...

Working with Nature

-- Quote of the Day --    "To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter... to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird’s nest or a wildflower in spring — these are some of the rewards of the simple life."  ~ John Burroughs -- Positive News --   Check out this link below to learn how water canals can provide useful space for solar panels. I think it is a phenomenal idea that will also shade the water, reducing algae issues and evaporation as well.  http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/government-and-policy/now-gujarat-to-cover-narmada-canals-with-solar-panels/article3346191.ece   Find Dave and Lillian Brummet, excerpts from their books, their radio program, blog, and more at: http://brummet.ca * Support the Brummets by telling your friends, clicking those...

poetry

-- Quote of the Day --  ... actually an excerpt from a poem...   He clasps the crag with crooked hands; Close to the sun in lonely lands, Ringed with the azure world, he stands. The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls; He watches from his mountain walls, And like a thunderbolt he falls. ~Alfred, Lord Tennyson, The Eagle  -- Poetry --  Since I started today's post with poetry, I thought I'd continue the theme. This poem is excerpted from my 1st book of poetry: Towards Understanding and speaks about the human impact on the environment.  I use the term "men" - as in mankind. This poem was written as lyrics, but works as a poem as well. How Can They Be So Cruel? Yeah, I heard from a friend Mother Earth's life will end  In explosions of death, sorrow and pain; And they tell me the cause is men. How can they be so cruel? Yeah they hurt her, and purge her, They burn her, and posion her rain... They chop he...

music event

-- Announcement --  I was just told that there will be a youth concert of sorts down at Millennium Park in Creston, BC this afternoon... and the band Storm Crow (made up of mostly music teachers) will close the event with a few songs.  I'm not sure when it starts, but Storm Crow will be taking the stage just after 5 PM Pacific for about 1/2 hour or so.   Find Dave and Lillian Brummet, excerpts from their books, their radio program, blog, and more at: http://brummet.ca * Support the Brummets by telling your friends, clicking those social networking buttons, or visiting the Brummet's Store - and help raise funds for charity as well!

Green Business

-- Quote of the Day --   " A man who becomes conscious of the responsibility he bears toward a human being who affectionately waits for him, or to an unfinished work, will never be able to throw away his life. He knows the “why” for his existence, and will be able to bear almost any “how”."  ~ Viktor Frankl -- Green Business --  Businesses of all shapes and sizes can and are leading the way in their communities – some install green roofs, ranging from small market stalls for farm produce and even large modern urban green buildings.  Coops in particular really show how interaction makes a huge impact, from innovative recycling, and reuse, and community support programs, training programs and buying from local suppliers and growers.  One coop I heard of recently (can’t recall the name) actually encourages people to bring in clean yogurt containers which are then run through their sterilization...

Australia's Reusue and Repair Center

-- Quote of the Day --    “…compassion, in which all ethics must take root, can only attain its full breadth and depth if it embraces all living creatures and does not limit itself to mankind."  ~ Albert Schweitzer -- Positive News --  Australia has launched Bower Reuse and Repair center – a repair café, where people are connected with skilled volunteers who offer weekly, monthly or seasonal workshops on how to repair a wide array of items, or turn old items into something new.  They even have sewing workshops! The goal is to develop a trend in society – resisting the tendency to throw things away, to create a community that is deeply connected, to educate and to reduce pressure on the landfill.  The result has been overwhelming with ideas flying in, creation of a tool lending library and increased public library loans on how-to books. There may even be an on-sight store where the o...

Bringing Nature Closer

-- Quote of the Day --  "Man’s heart away from nature becomes hard. " ~ Standing Bear  -- Nature --  Starting a small garden whether on your windowsill or balcony, a vertical garden on your fence or shed, landscaping along the front steps or starting a back yard garden... bringing nature closer to home is gaining attention - people are really getting into the benefits of having more green near their home or office. Others start indoor gardens with houseplants, herbs and so on. Others still may not have their own property, they don't have a balcony, but they do visit their local parks and trails so they'll volunteer there, clean up litter or help with fundraising events that green their community. Those with a few extra bucks in their pocket can donate trees or support nature related non-profits.  If you scroll through the archives of this blog and of our radio show (see link on the upper right side column of this page) you'l...
