The impact of your menu plan

The impact of the Menu Plan *Some  of the following  stats were derived from CenterForFoodSafety.org: Food makes up 21 % of waste in the landfills where it combines with all the other waste and produces toxic gases, leachates, fires and explosions that endanger the planet and the landfill workers. Composting is one of the most proactive things we can do for the planet - there are electric units available for condo/apartment dwellers that will dry and grind organics into a powder. There are larger bio-machines for restaurants, other machines will actually generate energy from the organics before they break down into soil. Or go for the backyard version that can easily manage organic waste.  http://brummetmedia.ca/store.html Did you know that it only takes a tiny amount of fossil-fuel energy to produce local fresh foods – as opposed to those that often travel 300 miles or more to get to your table?  Switching to fresh foods an...

effective communication

Effective Communication There are numerous aspects to consider when looking to enhance communication skills. I'm going to call this a 'meeting' just so I can generalize this information but in your situation it may be a written email, a direct mail-out, a phone call, a cold call... and so on. If you have not had experience with this yet, you may want to seek out Toastmasters or visit the Chamber of Commerce and local employment or small business centres to help refine your presentation, communication skills and body language. Also, try a few practice runs on a friend or co-worker - they can help you spot whether you have used the right smile, eye contact, gestures, posture and voice. The first item on the agenda is determining who your audience is and what the ideal outcome of that meeting will be. With that in mind let's ask ourselves several questions: How do you envision this happening?  Have you researched your client prior to visiting them?  Do yo...

World Water Day

World Water Day  World Water Day was set aside by the UN to highlight the importance of clean fresh water. Events focus on water conservation, education, sustainable projects for the management of fresh water resources, beach clean up projects and river-side replanting projects, and invasive species volunteer groups heading out to eradicate unwanted plants that will choke out native species. The first World Water Day was officially held in 1993 and is now celebrated across the planet. Consider picking up a copy of our Trash Talk book series which addresses many ways of conserving the amount of water we use, reusing old water and reducing water use. For instance, one might save the water from cooking potatoes; once cool, it can be used to feed outdoor plants.  Hot water from the canner can be used to kill weeds in the driveway, gravel walkways and sidewalks. Refuse to buy bottled water and instead buy several refillable ones. Install a water purifier machine under ...

poetry

World Poetry Day In celebration of World Poetry Day I'd like to share some poetry from our 2 books: Towards Understanding and Rhythm & Rhyme http://brummetmedia.ca/store.html Of Yesterday, I Dream * Ode to Vicky Ward, a friend and neighbour of mine back when I was 18-19 who was a victim of multiple sclerosis - written after a discussion with her on how the disease affected her and her family.  Of yesterday, I dream. The happiness then, it seemed Would never really end. Yet now, to live - I must pretend. Helplessly, I slowly die. In pain, I stumble. I fall... My mind is slipping away... My movements jerk and sway. My children and husband have gone, Leaving me to suffer alone. Afraid, I hover in my dreams, For I've only my walker on which to lean. there's so much I would change... ...Times I'd rearrange... All my possessions I'd gladly give  If one more yesterday, I could live. I wo...

quote of the day

Quote of the Day © BrummetMedia.ca " When I... moved to the country,  I felt as if I could finally exhale  that little bit of breath  I'd been unconsciously holding in my lungs.  Time is not so relentless  when it is possible to watch the sun  make an uninhibited arc across the day,  when the stars take up more  of the night's space than the darkness,  when a footprint lives for days in its moist soil bed,  when the only motor to be heard  is the occasional tractor  several miles away."  ~ Cecily Schmidt:  " Common Threads "  ~~ Visit the Brummet's @:  http://BrummetMedia.ca ~~
