Recommended Resources

The  Recommended Resources  series has been published on this blog since we transferred it from the  Brummet's Muse  biweekly newsletter that ran for 6 years or so, many years ago. When we closed it down, we decided that we just had to continue this series here on this blog and have been doing so now for nearly 2 decades. With this series, Dave and I have the pleasure of sharing some great resources which can include  - positive impact organizations and events - citizen science projects  - helpful articles, amazing resources & exciting interviews We hope our readers will reach out to thank them for their work, find a way to network with them, share these sites with others or get involved in some way. ** Want to see a non-profit listed here? - Send us a  FaceBook   or  LinkedIn  message. Break The Pattern

Back in August I started a series of articles about getting through darkness whether it be caused by stress, anxiety, chronic pain, illness, grief or depression.  Looking back on my life-long struggle with darkness, I could see a pattern - by taking tiny steps toward positivity and I could slowly drag myself out of the depths of the darkness and the heavy suction pull of its vacuum.  This series that I started back in August (2024) share these tiny steps that lead toward positivity. Feel free to scroll back, August - present day, to find more articles like this. Break The Pattern Sadly when we are going through stress, anxiety, chronic pain, anger or insomnia, depression or grief... when we are going through that we tend to do so alone. We hide how we are feeling from others. We don't want to impose. We don't want to weight them down.  ...We don't want them to hold us accountable either. Kudo's to citizen science

Here is a great example of how citizen science projects really do have a powerful impact.  Recently we celebrated Global Bird Weekend, which sparked several hundred thousand events for people to enjoy. It was also a great opportunity for the many successful fundraising activities for thousands of nonprofits.  Events like this help bring awareness to the amazing work that volunteers and nonprofits are doing, the impact they are having and to play a small role in supporting their efforts. Participants leave with a renewed sense of appreciation for the diversity found in nature. However events like this also offer a great opportunity for the science community to collaborate with everyday citizens to gather valuable data.  During the Global Bird Weekend a new world record was made when participants from over 200 countries volunteered to spend some time looking for birds armed with a pair of binoculars. Most volunteers also used their camera to capture an image and make it e...
