-- Conscious Living Tip --

Many of us are getting ready for the Xmas holidays... as such over the next few weeks I'll be sharing some of our articles on saving money and resources over the holidays - and some tips once in a while, like you'll see today. Also, there are hundreds of ideas in our  book Trash Talk to consider, which you can find at: www.brummet.ca

Dave and I were taking down the trellises and sun-shade blinds from around the exterior of the house and put up the holiday lights in preparation for the Xmas season.  While we won't be turning them on until Dec 1st, we put them up now to prevent dealing with this chore when snow is on the ground. Anyway, this had me thinking about lighting options...

LED  (light-emitting diode) lights are a great investment for the holidays – they consume 75% less energy than traditional xmas light strings. Did you know that if everyone in Canada switched to LED options this holiday season we could save enough energy to meet the annual electricity needs for nearly a half a million homes?

The strings actually last up to 10 times longer than traditional bulb-strings and are more fire safe.  ...And as far as household or office lighting, LED bulbs are as much 2 times more efficient than the CFL’s (Compact Fluorescent Lights) that many of us have heard of, and are (hopefully) using.
