A city in Southern Japan (Itoshima City) is a hydrogen town, where 150 residences and 2 apartment complexes are run by fuel cells. Their recent studies (over a 4 year period) revealed that they have reduced Carbon Dioxide emissions by 31 tons in just one year. The energy produced by fuel cells reduced the city's consumption of kerosene by 3,551 liters and 130,000 megajoules in their primary energy source... which I am pretty sure is coal.
