G4U & The Mission Continues...

-- 2 Great Non-Profits for Veterans & those in Service --

G4U was the created through the efforts of Sharon Kreh.  "Sharrie" is a true believer in supporting our troops.  The service men and women in serve in "harm's way". Certainly, she has a connection to the military: two sons and a daughter in law who graduated from West Point.  G4U began in 2004 with a group of volunteers from Sharrie's community - Innsbrook, MO (USA).  It is the goal of G4U to send "goodie bags" out every month.  Items such as cereal bars, toiletries, snacks, a book, tube socks, washcloths, magazine, etc. and even a small toy for the soldiers to share with local children.  All of these items are donated, even the hand sewn drawstring bags that are used as the goodie bags.  Since 2005 over 30,000 goodie bags have been mailed.  Money to offset the cost of mailing these items overseas is an ongoing need.   Notes of gratitude from those who receive these remembrances from home are the catalyst for those who volunteer and those who donate.  www.G4Ufromheretothere.org

Eric Grietens, Navy Seal, Rhodes Scholar returned from Iraq in 2007.  Upon returning, he visited wounded soldiers hospitalized in Bethesda, MD. It was in his conversations with those in the hospital that he discovered that although unable to return to duty, these men and women still were compelled to service their country.  Out of these conversations came the mission statement for The Mission Continues:  To build an America where every returning veteran can serve again as a citizen leader and where together we honor the fallen by living their values through service.
In only a short four years, Eric and The Mission Continues has been recognized as an organization that gives ongoing purpose to those who can no longer serve in the military due to injuries, but are desirous of serving their country. Eric has been interviewed by Tom Brokaw, noted in People Magazine, and awarded The Presidential Volunteer Service Award by former President George Bush. www.themissioncontinues.org

Patricia Bubash, is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Missouri, has a Masters Degree in Counseling.  In her professional life, she spent over 30 years in education.  Working with children, volunteering are her two passions.  As the daughter of a 20 year Navy career dad, an Army vet husband and many relatives who served, Mrs. Bubash has a special place in her heart for service men and women.  Recently, she completed another component of the Stephen Minister Program, H.E.R.O.E.S. which is directly involved with military only. There is one other passion of hers, writing.  In her days as a school counselor, she listened to many frustrated parents and children who were blended families.  As a result of these stories, and her own personal experience, she wrote Successful Second Marriages.   www.successfulsecondmarriages.com
