-- Quote of the Day --
“[Volunteering] gives you
a sense of purpose. … I think that most of us are trying to achieve [filling]
the loss of community, the sense of belonging. …We have about 115 chapters and
from there we have a lot of offshoot groups and companies that join us each
year, not official chapters but they participate. …Don’t limit your donation to
blankets – anything can be used to make a difference if it is from your heart.
…We’ve had restaurants feed us, we’ve had Starbucks companies, bakeries, all
kinds of companies that join to make our events possible. In one of our events
we had 75 volunteers and we made 195 blankets, we had 40 sewing machines –
people were on the ground cutting fabric, pinning things, handing them to the
people on the sewing machines… It reinforces that what ever your company does
it can fit in with something we do. …Do something for somebody else; make cards
to take to a senior’s center, make calls to people you haven’t talked to in
years, do something – we have an obligation to each other, to step out of
ourselves and try and make a difference. Everything helps.”
~ Susan Finch

-- Crafters Making a Difference --
Knitters - not only can you use your love of creating knitted art, but you can also make a difference. Perhaps participating in the Binky Patrol Organization (above) or local fundraisers is something you'd be interested in. Or maybe you want to make dishcloths and slippers, mittens and winter hats for the needy, or for thrift stores that raise funds for local worthy causes. Here is yet another option to consider:
(From FaceBook): "The Penguin Foundation has sent a global call out for knitters to help make pullovers for penguins caught in oil spills, which help keep them warm and stops them from cleaning themselves."
