Today's poem is excerpted from the co-written book Rhythm and Rhyme... the poem speaks of mixed feelings and memories of a parent that had passed on soon after their funeral.
I Remember Well
I remember
Her exhaustion
Impatience sharpened
Shining in her eyes
A gentleness rose
When hurts revealed
A tender hand where
Abuse once lived...
A wounded lamb
With haunted eyes
Trusting few…
For few earned it
A lioness, protecting
Then switching to
Condemnation at the
Slightest error...
I remember singing
And gardening
Bitter sharp anger
Shame and horror
And the overwhelming
Ocean wave
Of love
